chasing up some options at the moment in the ECU department for when i do me TT engine swap. currently looking at 2 different ones and just hoping some1 out there had had an any personal experiance with one or can see upsides/downs to either of them i may not have looked at, or even suggest a better alternative.

    Looking at the Wolf3D V500 http://wolfems.cart.net.au/details/635751.html
and the greddy emanage ultimate, http://greddy.com/products/display/?Category=electronics&SubCategory=47

the wolf system is actually looking more than half decent, though i dont really like the idea of a "universal" ecu.. or is that just me?

    cheers

What's wrong with the Nissan one? I really don't see the benefits of a many $ aftermarket one. At the end of the day you probably get less control than you would with a standard one. Most of the big numbers in the US are with the standard one. Look at Ashely Powers - 700HP! They were designed and to suit our cars and they do. It's all in the tune; not the thing that contains it.

I was going to get the Wolf 3D version 4, but am now likely to get the Haltech E8 for a little bit extra. If i were you i wouldnt be too paranoid about a "universal" ecu, if you find a good tuner that is the main thing! :D

    Re : new ecu.......

if you want to use the E-manage after you do your NA -> TT engine swap, you will still have to purchase a TT ecu because the E-manage is a piggyback NOT a standalone system

unless you have an intimate knowledge of the stock ECU, it takes too much dyno time to painstakingly program it with ECU interface software currently available. Unless someone comes up with some software / hardware that plugs into the socket to make it easier.

have you actually tried to go down that path? I did, but quickly decided aftermarket is the only practical way to go when changes to the ECU tune are required for changes to boost settings, or other modifications etc.

No, in truth I haven't. Surely the same thing needs to be said about aftermarket too though. Lots of work to install and lots of dyno time. Depending on how serious a Zedster is (and you're probably very serious :)) i figure that it's probably better value to pocket the 2K+ for purchase and installation of an aftermarket control system and pay 6-800 for dyno time and a nice tune.

    Point taken though.

    Cheers,
    Evan.

PS - what does 400+rwkw feel like? pretty awesome?

Evan 600 - 800 clams in dyno time is very very conservative for a retune of the stock ECU as Fleet mentioned it is not that easy. My new Power FC is the D Jetro which uses 2 map sensors. Ben at UAS removed my old ecu and piggyback, repaired the wiring harness and modified it to suit the Power fc (as its for an R33 GTR) and had it fitted and car running in about 4 hours. The following day it was dyno tuned etc and sorted some teething issues as I was the test subject so it took a little longer. All in all just under 2k for fitting and tuning and that included a greddy multi switching system for the VCT system changeover point.

All in all I am stoked for the cash my car sees 249 rwkw at 14psi and will hopefully see around 270rwkw when tuned for 18psi then around 330 odd with nos and all with stock turbos and internals.

In a nutshell if you plan to go semi serious or are just having tuning issues (like holes in the map etc) with the standard ECU replce it with an aftermarket one the difference will be profound as long as its fitted and tuned by a gun tuner you wont have any probs.

Back to topic I wouldnt buy the emanage as stated its a piggyback and still relies on base tuning etc from standard ecu and isnt much better than the AFC Neo and other type interceptors that are a lot cheaper.

The Haltech E11V2 is quite a nice peice of kit, I only went with the power fc over it as I wanted the hand controller for monitoring in real time on the strip and track.

Stock Ecu and a realtime eeprom emulator/burner . Can make changes on the fly for about $150 roughly.
