New coil pack connectors have arrived....yahoo!

When changing my spark plugs recently, I noticed how broken and decayed my coil pack connectors were. Also, recently I have been experiencing hesitation and missing which was diagnosed at BlueZ's tech day last Sunday as being caused by a totally crappy connector on number 5 coil pack.

Good thing I placed an order last week with Boostpro in the US for a couple of sets of coil pack connectors. Extra poostage cost was US$5.00 on top of the advertised price on their site. They took a week to arrive - very quick service - and included printed instructions for fitting.

I'd recommend Boostpro as a very good supplier. Now I have the fiddly job of fitting them. Might see if I can source some replacement pins for them as well. Anyone recommend a good auto electrical supplier?

    Cheers

    IB ?????

    Do you need new pins?

The pins are usually fine. It's just the pastic connectors that crumble.

I think my coilpack connector is going too!

Hey Zeppelin, could u let me know if the misfiring is a resullt from coilpack connectors? coz if it is, I'd probably have to get some too. Also isnt there any place where you could get coilpack connectors in AUS?

Misfire can be caused by any number of things, check out

tech section under engine for ideas... Typically if you have just got your zed will be the electrical connectors being dirty/corroded etc...

Re: I think my coilpack connector is going too!

In my case, the misfire was a direct result of a connector that had crumbled away around the actual pins, causing very bad contact. When you applied pressure to the top of the connector and made better contact, the misfire ceased.

As far as sourcing new ones in Australia, Nissan only sells them as part of a 4 plug wiring harness so you'd have to buy 2 and disassemble them. I think they ended up about what TTZed is charging, but they look like they'd need disassembling as well as they appear to come with wires attached.

Haven't pulled the old connectors down yet to determine how badly corroded the pins are, but number 5 looks pretty green with a quick peek. Hopefully, I'll just be able to clean them up and reuse them.

    Cheers

Mark, are these pins consistent across all plugs?

If so, I might lash out for a pack of 100. They can always go with me in my coffin when I'm gone :LOL:;)

Yes, as i understand, they work in almost all electrical connectors

and to suit the different types of male connctors, they use a tension/clamp jaw style of attachment instead of the usual female style... Ask the guy I suggested, he sells a bucket load of these specific items ...

I might go and talk to him one day about a forum discount, I've sent so many people there lately...

Unfortunately they won't serve well as coffin nails... so you're 'taking em with you' like me;). Makes you very popular at tech days!!! (I've replaced about 40 or so pins for others...)

Mark, do you have a part number or descriptor for the pins?

I gave the mob a ring and they need to sight the pin or a part number. Can't work from the car model, apparently. Do you still have their packet?

I had a problem with one of mine..

    Hi All,

Has anyone else had problems with keeping the coil pack connectors in place?
I was having a bit of a look around my engine bay the other day and just checked the connectors and 1 of them pulled straight out with no resistance. I spose with the high under bonnet temps plastic clips dont have a long life. The thing that got me though was all the others look the same but they don't pull out?? Any thoughts? I am extremely new to the quirks of the Zed..

You can use cable ties to secure the plug to the coilpack...

They sell packs of 100 for $25.00 or packs of 4 for $2.20. As the pins are common to all connectors, the 100 pack is more economical. Thanks for the info, Mark.

PS. Anyone want some connector pins, see me at a tech day. I'll have a few to spare.

Well they have gone up in price then. still good value

as they will do at every electrical connector in the engine bay of at almost 3 zeds...

As for giving em out at tech day ... great!!!, I've been handing out so many, my stash is dwindling:zlove:

Does anyone know of any places in Brisbane that sells the coil pack connectors?

Rang around like crazy today chasing the connectors without any luck.

    HIGHWAY NISSAN QUOTED
2401140P70 - HARNESS ASSEMBLY ENGINE EGI $875.80 Inc.

Acording to them the connectors aren't available seperatly.

    Places I tried:
    ASHDOWN
    Archerfield Archerfield Sales Office 2/ 124 Beatty Rd 4108 (07) 3277 8633
    PETRO-JECT EQUIPMENT & TRAINING CENTRE
    U 3/ 121 Newmarket Rd Windsor 4030 (07) 3857 9500
    Automotive EMF/AMF
Jurgens St (cnr Walker St) Woolloongabba 4102 (07) 3000 4000

Think i'm just going to have to bite the bullet and order them from the states.

Fitted the new connectors on the weekend...dead easy.

Took about an hour to do. The old connectors were in a very sorry state, and were very fragile. Hardest one to replace was number 6, of course...you have to unbolt and lay back the balance pipe to get to it. Just had to watch that the pins went into the new connector in the right order. As I did each one, I started the engine to make sure it ran OK.

Turned out the pins were in good condition, so didn't need to replace any, after buying a pack of 100 replacements.

    Cheers

    Re: no response from boostpro

After emailing boostpro twice in the last week with no response.

I noticed that czp sell them, well I just want to check that they are the same things.

    Can someone please confirm this.

Have you checked out Captain Mark's post on the VL Commodore connectors?

They apparently fit, and would be cheaper than importing from the States. Wish I'd known this a couple of weeks earlier :LOL:
