I've just bought some massive Red gum sleepers, i'll be putting these in my garden, supported by 6"x 6" red gum posts.

now, over the weekend we had a strange phenomenom in Victoria, apparently has a name...started with R.,...R....RR....oh yeah that's it....RAIN!
    (on with the story)
THese sleepers got wet, and the beautiful rich red colours came out.
I want them to stay that way once installed around the Garden beds.

So i was thinking whether or not to stain them.
I would dilute down some Wood stain with some turps 50/50% and use my Spray gun to give them a touch of colour.

Is it worth it? I mean to spend the money on the stain ($75) to make them look better and hopefully last a little longer.

    Could you

Use wood oil? Like the kind they use on boats? It brings the decking on boats up a treat and protects from water etc

Our sleepers in our back yard started out a yellow/brown colour but after 7 years they've faded to a white colour and look pretty bad imo. Dad was thinking of staining them except we don't have the spray gun so it would pretty much be me using the brush on all of them and I don't want to... unless he pays me.

    Sandeep,
You can use the Sprayer when i've finished with it.

The wood oil (i'm assuming Deck oil is the same) sounds like what i want.

I wouldn't get 'marine boat oil' or whatever they classify it as, because if there is one things i'm certain of, a boat is about the only Bigger money pit than a Zed. So if the conversation of purchasing something even wavers near boat topics, the price goes up.

"i need a pair of gum boots,"
"they are $29, what do you need them for?"
" i want to use them on my boat."
"yeah sir, you may have these marine grade gumboots for only $129 ....per boot."

(god knows why i'd have gumboots on in a boat.)

    point made though.
