I'm no guru but I thought the TT standard exhaust

is 2.25" not 2.5". One of the perennial arguements is whether to upgrade TT dual exhaust to 2.5" or 3" where is generally considered that 3" is good for big HP but counter-productive for moderate HP.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the standard 2.25" TT exhaust diameter because that was one of the original questions in this thread.

Also, while speaking about exhaust, i recently purchased sports extractors from Tom in the latest group buy.

The extractors have no inputs for O2 sensors, so are the 02 sensors not needed or do i need to relocate them furthwer down the pipework, so to speak?

Also i cut out the sensors just before the cats... im not sure if they were needed .. spoke with Zeductive and he said they weren't, hope he is right  :bash:

ZDUCTIV told you that they are not needed ,are you sure about that

. The goal of the sensor is to help the engine run as efficiently as possible and also to produce as few emissions as possible.

A gasoline engine burns gasoline in the presence of oxygen (see How Car Engines Work for complete details). It turns out that there is a particular ratio of air and gasoline that is "perfect," and that ratio is 14.7:1 (different fuels have different perfect ratios -- the ratio depends on the amount of hydrogen and carbon found in a given amount of fuel). If there is less air than this perfect ratio, then there will be fuel left over after combustion. This is called a rich mixture. Rich mixtures are bad because the unburned fuel creates pollution. If there is more air than this perfect ratio, then there is excess oxygen. This is called a lean mixture. A lean mixture tends to produce more nitrogen-oxide pollutants, and, in some cases, it can cause poor performance and even engine damage.

The oxygen sensor is positioned in the exhaust pipe and can detect rich and lean mixtures. The mechanism in most sensors involves a chemical reaction that generates a voltage . The engine's computer looks at the voltage to determine if the mixture is rich or lean, and adjusts the amount of fuel entering the engine accordingly.

When the oxygen sensor fails, the computer can no longer sense the air/fuel ratio, so it ends up guessing. Your car performs poorly and uses more fuel than it needs to.

hes talking about the catalytic convertor temp sensors....

tells you when the cats are getting overly hot, and that is a unnecessary part.....
you most ceratinly need the 02 sesnors but they are in a different spot, on the headers/dump pipes not just in front of the cats as stated in this case....

    clarification

Ok for clarification, from memory, on a stock N.A Exhaust system, there are 4 sensors, two on each pipe.

one pair situated on the extractors, which from my knowledge, are O2 Sensors, which have 2 core wiring that leads up into the block, possibly to the wiring loom for the ptu and/or ecu

last pair, is before or just after the cats and has a shilded/braided line attached to the sensor, which go's up through the floor of the car

    thanks in advanced

corrrect, and its these ones(see below) that are safe to remove

leave the 02 sensors alone, cause they need to be there, but the cat sensors can be removed.....
