Spent some time on the dyno today adjusting my SAFCII. Managed 137.5KW and a nice flat A/F curve. The area up to 4500 was real hard to get even the way it is now because of the 400RPM tuning increments - still heaps healthier than my factory graph around there. Pretty happy - hadn't had it dynoed with the new flywheel and fixed an air leak. Rock on NAsHere's my timeslip from the drags the other day too.

Thanks for the dyno chart

So this dyno is at your current stage 4? And you do 14.68 passes with this power then?I need to know cause I want to break 15 in my NA. Currently at 133kw stage 2, but more power than stage 3 zeds somehow on the same dyno.Main thing is break 15s barrier at quarter mile because my mates are bagging the NA 300ZX all the time and they drive primera and Mitsi GSR.8(

Do this...

Put an underdrive pulley and a lightned flywheel in, advance the timing and hello 14s. No cats must give you a fair bit more grunt I reckon, those figures of yours are possible depending of how good condition your engine is in. With the mods above I reckon you will have over 140 KW easy. Also to run a 14 in an NA its all about the launch - ie deflate tires to 23 PSI and drop the clutch. NAs run out of puff around the 200 Meter mark - you will be able to beat a lot of turbo non 4WD stuff out there to this point where they tend to pull away.
Hope this helps.

What size tyres do you have?

Is it mickey thompson slick? I got 255/40/17 super sticky road tyres. No wheelspin possible under all but most extreme conditions or really oily road. Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3Yes, my engine is in better conditions that other zeds, I went through looking for zeds and this particular one just has better and even 170 compression and spotless head, rings, pistons, etc.Oh, do you think the thinner oil helps too? Mobil 1 10W30.I saved your dyno advance timing from search and I reckon 17 degrees will give the best gain without running too aggressive timing, especially eliminiating flat spots. Without the chart, all I would know is the gain of 2kw, but it gains like 6-8 kw in some other spots too.

Same size..

as you . Ventus k104s all round - they hook up quite well once they're warm. Looks like you have probly the best you can get there with the goodyears. Interesting to see how well they'd hook up with a high RPM launch. Tell us how you go. And yeah the real light oil gives you just that little bit more go, now I've modified my PCV system(catch tank) I run Genuine Nissan 7.5W/30 for 26 bucks I can't go wrong.
Catcha.

Now it's your time to prove your NA!

Lets see if all that money and power translate into some nice timeslip ;)

I doubt....

that my zed will ever see as much track time (if any) as Trayns...:) And I'm a crap driver anyway, so I'd be hopeless on the track..:) But I hope I do get some nice numbers on the dyno..:) Its good to know the power is there, even if its only NA power..:)Cheers

respect for NA power

at least do a drag strip timeslip...

So you know the money is not going to waste. Makes you a better driver too (somewhat ;) ). If you give it a go and you still say you're a crap driver, then we can say, if a better driver was driving we'll get faster times. :p .I haven't gone to the strip yet. Waiting till I break 140kw, just to make sure I beat those pesky boys driving family sedans. The Z is about 200kg heavier than their cars.

I sold my TT for an NA

Reliability is the main concern. The TT was getting really sick and the NA is very healthy.

just curious but shouldnt the af ratio be ar

ound 12 or less? or is that different for turbos? I have heard some mechanics say 14 is good, others say that 14 is to lean and that 11-12 is good?

19. JETzx

JETzx X-FACTOR

I think NA can run leaner then turbos

i guess thats why when u see most turbo cars before they hit boost they sit in the lean side of things then right down to the 12s, 11s on boost. Also dont forget there will be a difference between using a wb02 sensor measuring at dump pipe and lamda meter measured at exhaust tip. The obvious being that with the longer route your reading will apear leaner then it really is. I think 14 is crazy!!!!

Hey method..

The "theory" for A/Fs for NAs is supposed to be max power at 13.2 I run mine richer (12.8)because of more timing and track use. The "theoretical" A/Fs for turbo cars is 12.5 for low boost and 11.5 for high boost. Every car is different however and a car may make more horses with an A/F of 11.0 rather than 12.0 etc. Pays to experiment on dyno. I dynoed mine at CF Performance in Toowoomba where the guy there is great and just runs the dyno for me after I've made the adjustments.
Catcha dudes.
