I noticed today on the N/A that the plastic fitting where the top hose attaches to the radiator has broken off about five millimetres from the end. I see on the Courtesy site that the top tank is no longer available. Wondering if anyone has had a similar problem and how the dealt with it? Tony
Check your local radiator shop, most likely available in non-genuine. Local rad shop here can get TT "top" tanks pretty sure they can get NA tanks too.
Get a new radiator. A bit more than a re-core, but if you need a top tank that might be cheaper. I have a couple NA radiators out the back if you want me to chop the top off one and send to you. I went for a new unit rather than re-coring one of the old ones. (cant remember if it was $360 or $460)
I did the 200,000 km service on my N/A earlier this year and had this bit break off as I was removing the upper radiator hose. See this post: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=284165 I just dropped the radiator in to Phillip Radiators in the ACT and picked it up a couple of hours later with a brand new top tank fitted. Cost somewhere between $200-250 from memory and included rodding the radiator. Cheers, Peter
Stephen's NA had a crack in it..... right in front of where the top hose joins on Took it to the local boys and they scratched the shyte out of it with 36grit sandpaper..... then then mixed up this black goop and smeared it over the sanded area, then placed a coarse cloth ( similar to fibreglass mesh) onto the goop, more goop was applied and then they used a butane burner to heat it up..... 5 mins later and it was as hard as a rock, fully sealed up, and all for $20 Dont ask me what the stuff was as I have no idea, but it workes a treat ! Definately tougher than the plastic tank
You can get some excellent plastic repair stuff from most dirt bike parts places. Dont know if it will work on a rad, but may be an option if nothing else comes up.
Had the same problem with DREDZ, but my solution was to buy Jedi-77's rebuilt radiator after he'd had the same problem, but had the radiator rebuilt, then later fitted an after-market radiator. Most real radiator shops can fit a new top tank... try your local "Natrad" franchise.
