since i got my extractors fitted the car sounds like a lawnmower on steroids... mainly when i accelerate not on idle any ideas?
if it sounds like a WRX you may have dropped a cylinder, which is usually caused by bad wiring, bad injector plug, bad coil pack, bad coil plug, bad ptu
I just finished installing mine today. who did it? a exhaust shop or normal mechanic? As previous posts recommend, look into connectors for the injectors and the coil packs. Purchase new ones from caz or similar if that is the case. PTU may not necessarily be the problem, unless the fitter really stressed the wiring loom when doing the headers. Exhaust leaks should be checked, especially around the headers to cat section of pipe. Copper plate gaskets are on the rear secitons and should have been re-fitted.
whan I got mine the face of one of the headers wasn't straight they didn't realise till they started the car and it was loud as. Had to remove that side and square it up before re-fitting.
i'll put my bet on that too. he mentioned he needed an injector replaced but it wasn't done due to lack of time... if that injector is gone then you're running on 5 and you might have a leak to top it off.
John mentioned that your engine bay was pretty oily, rusted and grimy and you didn't have enought money left over for them to finish it all off properly, so i wouldn't be surprised if something was loose or disconnected.
we wont get back into that ...... but rusty oily mechanical condition shouldnt have anything to do with an exhasut leak , if thats what it is
wtf,a mechanic that doesnt do things up or leaves things loose because you run out of money :banned: ,thats great customer relations isnt it
no it wouldn't give you an exhaust leak, but it could be the range or other problems suggested (dropped out cylinder etc). Only gleaning from what i read in the other post and i'm not trying to start a flame war. Trying to turn the blame away from UAS and instead help the bloke find out what's wrong. Maybe go ask them about it as they were the last to deal with your car?
are the pcv valves and hoses all intact? These can tend to make a lot of noise if old, and sound similar to tappet noise- a 'clack clack' sound throughout the rev range. This may become more noticable when parked in an enclosed space like a garage where you can get all the sound echoing back at you...
Old EFI harnesses when disturbed can knock a cylinder out especially from an injector. If the connectors have not been changed that would be my bet. If you don't have datascan, remove a coil pack connector one at a time until you notice no change in engine sound.
Well Funny how people fill in blanks and skepticle boardering on cynical thinking we must have left something lose and jumping to conclusions, facts would be nice but not popular. We finished the job regardless of being short paid. I doubt if anything is lose it is probably the noise from $94 cheap E Bay thin wall extractors you supplied, replacing thick cast iron factory ones with insulated heat shields. If not running well it could be a number of problems as a few have mentioned here. Or the dud injector or plug you still have that we did not touch.
people need to realise how expensive it is to run a workshop. if there is enough money made during the week to pay the (numerous) bills, the salaries, and the rent, then we are doing well. customers who dont pay their bills put more of a burden on a workshop then they probably realise. they only see the amount of money they are paying. what they dont see is the amount of money that is needed to keep the place running.
I just don't get why people take short cuts with zed parts. I know that some prices are a bit steep, but they are heaps better than they were even 5 years ago. It was a $90k stickered car after all. The price of zeds might now be rock bottom, but I just wish that some people who are short on funds really think twice. MikeZ32 is probably one of the very few exceptions I've read over the years of doing mods to zeds on a budget, and that looked like it was a result of thorough investigation rather than buying the first shitty part he could find from ebay. In my opinion you generally get what you pay for, and if going the cheap route you quite often you get to pay for it twice by replacing said part with the proper item you should have installed in the first place.
UAS dude u gotta stop bagging out a company you have probably never had anything to do with, dv52rk.. were they decent extractors or whats the story?? tell me they werent ebay jobbys
You have no idea of my relationship with UAS, so why second guess? I have spent several thousand with them (mostly through GB's though) and have never had an issue with JP or Tim or anyother person who works there or product sold by them. In no way was I "bagging" them or trying to blame them for the problem. It is most likely that it's the cheap nasty ebay merchandise that has caused the problem, for all we know they have cracked a weld somewhere. I was merely suggesting what the problem could be. Exactly... When's the deep south cruise happening
