Well it finally arrived early thrusday. It sat hidden all day up the road from work. Finished work at 4 and argued with some people for half an hour before finally being charge $50 for a permit to drive it home. It was covered in dust so I gave it a quick wash and checked all oil and water levels and stuff. Cleaned off the engine number and fixed a aluminum plate to the firewall with a larger VIN number i was told i needed.

Friday i drove her in and took it down to get inspected, it passed. Then it went to transport department and the said they only view them on fridays and wednesdays and they were to busy to do it then so i had to wait till next wednesday.

At 4 i get off work and have a look at a sheet i was given at inspection that said i passed and i decided i didnt need transport to view it. I went with the inspection sheet to get it regoed and the lady said i needed to take it back to where i got it inspected and have them put the build date on the form and to get them to check the VIN as it wasnt in their database.

I go back to the inspection, show the guy a piece of paper with the build date (as we couldnt find it in the engine-bay) he writes it on and off i go back to get it regoed. I get the same lady who i saw the first time, give her all this paperwork she needed and she asks if i got the guy to fill in the paperwork she gave me for the VIN. I say 'i didnt know you gave me paperwork, but he checked the VIN, its correct, it even shows it on the import approval'. she has a big whinge about how i was supposed to get the inspection guy to fill in other paperwork. i insist she never gave me extra paperwork and that the VIN is correct and point out to her again that its on the import approval so the government must know about it. she says it isnt in the database and she cant do nething without it.

by this time its almost 5 when she should be going home, i think she justs wants to get me to go away. i ask how i get the VIN put in the database (by this time i have realised this is why i needed to go to the transport department but i wasnt going to tell her that). she says she isnt sure and will have to call a transport guy in hobart. she goes around the back and returns 5minutes later. she says 'it should be right now' she enters some stuff in the computer asks me for $800 and gives me a rego sticker and numberplates.

i am still pretty shocked that the system is so inconsistent down here in tas. and im also skint as i just gave the government all the money i had left after buying the zed from japan. but im a very happy boy as i have a very tuff red zed sitting outside my house...

im still happy about it as i write this as i found that the zed has a 3inch zaust i didnt know it had and a CD stacker in the boot i didnt know about either (not that the CD-stacker is negood to me as it is missing the magazine so i cant put any CDs in it...)

i went driving around with mates in it last nite for 5hours and got a 100yen refund on the car as we found a 100yen coin under the front seat...

If it makes you feel any better

in all states other than TAS you have to spend about a grand on compliance, so put up with the stuff around and smugly tap your top shirt pocket with all the extra cash you've saved being in Tas :)

Re: If it makes you feel any better

actually yes it makes me feel much better. im sure it shouldnt happen the way it did, i should have had to pay an extra 1500 for a comliance...

i have one probelm with it, i went to put some PULP in it last nite and for some reason i couldnt get the pump nozzle into the tank properly and it kept cutting out like the tank was full. took me about 10minutes to put $10 of petrol in, at which stage i just gave up. is there nething i can do about this? do the japs use different fuel pumps or something?

You shouldn't have any problem ordering another magazine for your

stacker if its a common brand. You'll have to post some pics to, sounds like a nice car.

What Brand's the stereo stacker and what capacity?

I have a spare one for mine that I could part with for a sensible price if it's what you're needing.

    cheers,

    Peter
