check your base idle using consault and a stumpy philips screwdriver. and maybe do all the usual checking the connectors cas ptu

My money is on a faulty air regulator

which controls idle speed when cold.

Check for resistance across the pins.

I have the specs on my website > look for the Engine Sensor Specs Cheatsheet link.

I would if could get my consult too work as my new computer dose not have any com ports so i got a usb to serial port adapter but it wont work with that i tested the port with a loopback connector and the port comes fine but when i plug the consult in it says it cant open the port.i have tried a lot of programs and they all do the same thing the one i got with the consult is conzult. And im using vista the only thing i think it could be vista or it dose not like the usb adapter.

i doubt it's that, you're probably having problems with the driver. i'm using a usb/serial adaptor and vista and conzult works just fine for me.

have you tried bypassing the solenoid on the passenger side?

i'd say like the others though, your base idle is out fire up conzult go to adjust base idle in the engine tab then set it by turning the idle screw towards the front of the car until the idle is at the right value.

Remove a small vacuum line from the plenum and see if it cold runs better.
If so, then Mark is on the money.
This will of course allow more air into the plenum, which is what the air reg does when the engine is cold.

The clue here is the cold idle problem

the base idle may well be out but adjusting that will make zero difference if the air regulator is faulty.

You can still check the air reg manuallly using a multimeter across the male terminals of the unit.

targus, the brand shouldn't make a difference though as they'd be using the same IC.
make sure you turn on your car with the interface plugged in as well as the adaptor, and then plug in the usb cable to your pc.

then have a look under : my computer > manage > device management > serial devices

there should be one in there probably com5 by default that says usb serial adaptor, if there isn't you need to reinstall the driver correctly.

    hope this helps.
