Power Figure: I'm hoping to crack the 300rwkw mark while keeping my car as a reliable daily driver. Would like suggestions/constructive criticism I bought a 2nd motor and plan on rebuilding it and then swapping. Engine came with: The engine: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=291817&highlight=engine+turbos+sale I plan on using a stock plenum, not the custom one. 2 x T28 hybrid turbos, water and oil cooled, steel wheel, T28 front with a .83 rear housing Custom Dump Pipes Exedy Heavy Duty Button Clutch Alluminium flywheel FMIC Already on my car: 3A racing Pod cat back exhaust Manual Boost controller Chip + tune from Karl Mods i'm looking at purchasing: Wiseco Forged Pistons Eagle Forged Conrods Nismo 555cc injectors Adjustable FPR ARP Head & Main Stud Kit All new hoses/seals throughout engine I'm trying to decide whether doing head work is necessary/worth it for me. I have searched around and read but not found what i'm looking for. I was going to get larger throttle bodies but not sure if it is worth it if not going to port heads etc? Still considering my options for ECU. Also considering 100k service. I'm just looking at engine mods at the moment, I will be doing sway bars etc after I have sorted my engine. (I want to get the parts while the aussie dollar is doing so well) How do these T28s compare to GT28R's? What are the differences? And yes I know there are lots of build threads and I HAVE searched and read. But I'm allowed to have my own too! Cheers, Adam
t28s are generally the gt28r aka the s14/15 turbo the 2560r. few things. you will need a 100k service and all new timing gear etc. considering your engine is coming apart. things you will / should buy hks/forge Actuators, msp/ams manifolds 5 bolt dumps full gasket kit ss oil line with restrictors cams !! head gaskets etc etc list goes on forever dude. then your looking at things like cryo treating new welsh plugs grind the flashing inside the coolant galleries hot tanking fuel pump fuel lines replace all vac line new engine mounts new steering rack mounts ps .. for 300kws.. aka 400horse at the wheels. you could do a stock rebuild with larger turbos and injectors and tune !! easy ...
are you chasing top end or low to mid end? they may be a bit laggy, maybe try sourching the smallest housing you can fit if ur chasing low-mid end.... not nessasary to get 300 but if u have the cash to throw then do it. flow is the best thing for your engine, the better the flow the better ur result. porting ur heads and match porting from heads/lower plenum/plenum would be good. if u dont have the cash for the throttle bodies then just clean ur stock one up to match with the plenum entry... nisstune these t28's are just the older versions. the gt series are the new versions... 100%%
The 300rwkw goal is what I have in my head due to after researching, it seems a good goal for the amount of money I want to spend. I already have 5 bolt custom dumps I forgot to mention i'm also going to get cometic head gaskets and all new gaskets. I already plan on replacing nearly ALL hoses
Tyring to get best bang for buck I can, I already have these turbos so won't be sourcing others. I'll do the best I can with these, not too concerned with lag but keen to reduce it if i can with supporting mods. I just curious at peoples suggestions for perhaps spending a bit of extra money here or there which may see good results. I am considering nistune. Thanks, this is all great feedback! The reason for forged internals is i dont want any hiccups down the road, i heard of someone snapping a stock conrod at 297rwkw, yeah they can handle more but i'm not sure on condition/how things have been treated so i'm playing it safe and replacing with stronger new forged ones. I want reliable power. I dont want the engine to be under risk or strain
No real need for the cometic gaskets - stock will be more than fine... I understand the slotcar ran stock gaskets for ages - if not still using them...
Cometic head gaskets only gonna set me back about $160 or so, well worth it for that price I think yeah?
Good call, I don't think one comes in caz's 100k kit though? Only kit i'm looking at getting atm Any more suggestions, tips etc from anyone is all great. Keep em coming!
Havent paid too much attention yet... will have a better look tonight and let you know. Still havent got the avc-r set up perfectly but not running anything over 1 bar.
Source all the parts through coz, you will save alot of money. I would do this if I were you Wiseco pistons Eagle rods (optional) Full 100k kit OEM full gasket kit AMS or MS manis AMS 5 bolt dumps Reco heads, no porting Port match upper and lower plenums Port match lower plenum to heads Nismo 555 Sard fuel reg New oem fuel pump All new silicon coolant and vac hoses Nistune ecu 200cpi metal cats, either 2 1/2 or 3 inch Koyo radiator New fan hub S2 ptu Thats about all you need to make good reliable power, not including any other existing components that may be stuffed.
On the receipt i was given from when the turbos were purchased it says: T25/28 Turbocharger .83a/r Rear So fairly certain its .83, they look quite large in person.
Thanks, i'm most likely going to get most of the parts from vuk@AMS, he's giving me some great prices and aussie dollar is doing great at the moment, i'll get a quote from coz too though, thanks! I already have a s2 ptu from heavytrevy and a 56mm ebay bok choi rad that i forgot to mention. The engine already came with custom made 5 bolt dumps, would you suggest using ams ones over these? i guess its hard for you to make a judgment without seeing the custom ones. I may take some measurements at some stage and compare. Thanks, Adam
There is a dyno sheet in the for sale thread for the engine: http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/HighHPZed/PowerChart.jpg 11 PSI Thats with custom plenum though that has short runners so don't know how it would look with stock plenum. I'm keen to get a mod list and spool time from kade who said he has .84
