I just got my 300zx today. Where to start with whats wrong lol. Paint on the divers side, and rear, is faded or painted incorrectly. The black strips on the t-tops are chipping, and revealing silver underneath. The front bar is cracked at the bottom, and not flush with the passenger front quarter panel. The front bar is also loose on both sides. There was a small collision on the rear bar, but that has been replaced. On the passenger side rear. there's a couple of bums and dints. I'm sure that will be allot to fix . The interior is pretty good. Just some roof trim, and center console issues. The engine goes fine, and runs well. There's a small knocking noise when the engine is revved, sound like its coming from the front right cylinder, i thought it might be a lifter, until i noticed the TACO. When revved, say to 3,000 RPM, it will sustain RPM for a split second, then drop RPM all choppy. When the RPM come down it also makes a squeaky noise, almost like a gear grind, coming from center bottom of the car. I have some videos going up with some noises its making. Any feed back, comments, suggestions are welcome, this is obviously a project car, so ill keep taking photo's. Oh, and if anyone has a mint condition original body kit for a z32, one just like mine, please contact me thanks, John
1) there is no body kit on that.. 2) that front drivers corner looks resprayed compared to door.. meaning a ping..
how much did you pick this thing up for? looks like it's going to need a lot of TLC. drivers quarter panel was most likely replaced and obviously the rear bar is pushed in. decent body shop should be able to straighten it all up for you and a respray would make a big difference. at least the interior is good. looks like it could use a passenger side windscreen cowl.
Definitly had a ding on drivers side fender, different color th the bonnet... may be the cause of the bumper not sitting flush? If the engine runs well you probably got yourself a decent car, shouldn't take to much to get the exterior up to scratch...
Might possibly be a long long journey to get that car up to scratch. You haven't really even gotten to the mechanical issues yet...the car I bought was a little less dodgey in bodywork and mechanically...it needed a lot of work, and it still does...I'd say I'm about like 20% thru the issues. But it might be good fun in the end, with a nice looking Z. But with the money I put into 2 Z's by now I'd rather be driving "a Lancer with a turbo, AWD and bodykit"
That's what i thought, i was just going to get it fixed. I only payed $5,000 for it, so im pretty happy. i dont expect it to be perfect tomorrow. and i wanted a bit of a project. No body kit? I still like the look of these things stock, more then modded.... way more. So if anyone upgraded from there stock to a body kit, please contact me if you still have your original stuff. I'd be pretty interested. Thanks, John
I,m only home every 10 days for 4, and i have a modest amount of money, so ill just keep putting it in shops when i go out lol, reggo is first tho. Should be done in no time really
It wouldnt take that much for a person with the know how to get the body-work on par...ive seen much worse lol...
assuming the car is mechanically sound, once the exterior is fixed up should be ok. looks like a zed that came in under the 15 yr old rule, it's probably going to need more work once you start digging deeper but as a project, have fun with it.
Thanks man. Is there anywhere i should check? I tryed out the ABS today, and after a bit, the idle went funny lol....eeeppp lol, it just stopped now so I'm not sure what it was. Oh btw, he's the engine revving (not my youtube account, ill get one of those soon lol, i think ill need it). [just watched it, and that looks like aggressive revving, but it's not, it was the angle....] http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=kkpLCff6RZo
Don't worry too much about the amount of work to do man, pretty much all zeds are projects when first purchased. After all, most of them are 18 years old now! Just take your time and slowly build it up, you'll be satisfied when it's all finished! Good luck! -Kirill
Fix the vac leaks (there will be some ), clean the throttles, adjust the TPS, new filters and fluids throughout (incld gearbox and diff) and she should be running sweet.
if shes running, you got a bargain enjoy the cosmetic project because its more fun and visually rewarding than just throwing money into fixing engine problems.
Doesn't look to bad mate, a bit of body work and she'll look nice. Cos you have a non turbo there, first mods I would do is get a good suspension setup, coilovers, strut braces etc for better handling. It's not really worth spending heaps of money on engine mods, because you wont get very good bang for your buck, you need a TT for that. Good luck with it
how do you clean your throttle bodies? just pull them off and wipe out all the shit? will it impact on other things in your engine? pm me if you want, im thinking about take off a few things while i get my car painted.
Hey man i got a project zed bit over a week ago for 7500 im pretty happy with it but it does need work eg the roof needs respraying (slicktop) as the paint has blistered but other than that its in real goo nick 94000km on the clock bbs rims bilstein coil overs all round im happy
