    Hi guys

I am going to pull my blown motor & put a freshly built motor in the car this weekend.

I've been following the tech threads but was curious if there are any tips/tricks to doing it efficiently & maybe even some things that should be done while the motor is out - first time doing anything like this.

eg. is it easier to drop the motor in with dumps on or fit later?

I was also thinking of doing the complete HICAS removal - is it a workable solution to get a hold of a n/a power steering pump and do away with the lines altogether? Rather than just creating a return loop?

Any help is much appreciated. Looking forward to having this beast on the road!

    Cheers

Dumps on first, before engine back in. Way harder to install them once it is in the bay. Just watch them on the steering shaft (hehe shaft).

    Gearbox attached?

I would say depends on the dumps, some of the bigger aftermarket sets are both easier to fit with the engine in and harder to fit the engine with them on than stocks.

Yep, you can swap the pump out for a non-hicas unit you just need to swap the resevoir and J-hose too as the feed line is a different size.

  4. be gentle with your wiring harness. i made the decision to do a plenum pull a short while ago and was rather ham fisted with the wiring and have now cost myself near a grand getting it rectified. 20 odd years of heat cycles have made the harness rather brittle. magic mike is on the mark with the "shaft" ;). i tried doing it without the dumps on when i bought a new motor, straight back out to install dumps whilst dangling from a crane. its not hard turning the engine slightly to one side whilst lowering it past the steering column, just nice and slow. if box is attached i would drop the front cross member a bit and put the car on a slightly elevated angle at the front so its easier to guide in. who built your motor? all oem or forged?

Leaving the gearbox in situ this time around. Will be doing a manual conversion once the engine is run in though

Motor was built a while ago by niall from here. Mostly forged internals and bigger turbos - left heads as stock manual though

Cheers for that, will be going this route with the power steering gear.
