Anybody here have an idea of a good steering wheel hub? I need one that will work with HICAS and not cause my airbag light to go off. I know takakaira used to sell one but I can't seem to find their site anymore. Not sure what happened to it. There are tons out there that cause the airbag light to come on while working with HICAS as well as ones that do not work with either but nothing that seems to be compatible with both.

I don't know how a boss can stop your airbag light from coming on when you don't have an airbag connected?

    Just take the bulb out?

There was definitely one of them out there that prevented the light from coming on while also retaining HICAS. I just don't know of any that I can get my hands on at this moment as the only one I have ever seen appears to be no longer available.

Ok, bare with me (mechanical n00b), but does that mean the HICAS is disabled if you are not running an original steering wheel(in the majority of cases)? If this is the correct then is it logical to install a HICAS lockout bar?

I know its a little off topic but I can conceive I'm not the only one who may have thought this.

No you need to mechanically (or electrically depending on your zed) lockout or remove hicas.

However if you install a non hicas steering boss, you may find that A. it won't fit, or B. if you do get it to fit, you may find you have steering issues related to hicas.

The HICAS will be disabled because without a HICAS boss it will be throwing error codes and go into fault mode. You need to be careful when changing the boss that the sterring rack doesn't get out of alignment. the HICAS works on a combination of speed and steering wheel movement. I had my car reparied once and the panelbeaters fundged the alignment by just taking off the steering wheel and clocking it to look straight. Result the HICAS would kick in going around tight corners. Rang my Insurance company after also finding they had just put spacers behind the upper suspnesion arm to compensate for a bent j arm. told them I would be laying a complaint with the Police for gross negligence. they weren't happy but when the assessor came out and i et him drive the car and the HICAS kicked in on atight bend they soon changed their tune.

So in short get a proper HICAS boss, lock the sterring rack when changing steering wheels and you will be fine

That is some weighty information right there and I thank you for it, but no mention of whether it might be practical or even safer to install a HICAS lockout bar?

I am sorry if it appears if I have hijacked this thread, I might start another one.

i have HKB boss kit with hicas and cruise control.

but the hicas fitment looks not quite right, so i keep the factory hicas setting along with the HKB cruise control unit. And i believe we better dont touch the factory hicas on the steering unless you have removed the whole hicas system with lockbar.
