mixed octanes causing detonation?

i had to put in $10 worth of standard unleaded the other day. i then drove to another servo straight away and put in $40 of bp ultimate, a servo i regularly use.

i drove for about 20 minutes that night, no problems, next day after driving for half an hour it starts to feel a bit sluggish, next day its running like a complete pig.

its giving me code 34, so today i decide to replace fuel filter and plugs, but it's still doing it.

just wondering if that mixing of 92 (whatever standard is) and the 98 has caused the whole tank to become 95octane or something.... is that how it works?

Code 34 doesn't mean you are getting detonation.

It means there is something wrong with the detonation sensor circuit. Either the sensor is messed up or the wiring is.

As for your resultant octane rating, yes you can mix and it will be somewhere in the middle depending on the ratios.

    code 34

code 34 means that there is something wrong with the det sensor wiring. It does not mean that your car is pinging. The Nissan ECU has no codes that tell you when the car is detonating.

Now, in regards to the code 34, get that fixed first as you will be using safety maps and more fuel will be being pumped into the engine. Ie, it could explain the sudden sluggish behaviour.

You seem to be the victim of an unfortuenate circumstance, as the dodgy fuel you may have gotten is a separate issue from the code 34.

oh well, plugs and filter needed changing anyway.

thanks for that guys. i'll hunt down the solution in the tech section
