so i've pulld the dipstick out of the zed and noticed there is only half a one there..... can somebody tell me if there is a filter mesh in the sump of the zeds to stop foriegn objects going through - or is this a oh no moment.... cheers, gerb.
You'll be okay, there's a mesh screen on the oil pickup. Seriously though, how does a dipstick just chop itself in half. Are you sure you had a complete one to begin with?
I could ask a bunch of questions here, then float some suggestions. But it would be easier if you just phone me tomorrow. ( already PM'd you my mobile phone number ) Also, a heads-up for other Bendigo & central VIC members - Doing a plenum pull / coolant bypass / injector connectors / boost leak test / anything that looks ugly this weekend on boltzx's TT Zed. Come along if you can but be aware it's not a social event during the day, we're on a mission so be prepared to help and maybe learn Supposed to finish on Saturday but no surprise if it rolls over to Sunday due to some 22 year old things breaking as we GENTLY remove them So... possible Zed party at my place on Saturday night? I'm game
I recently purchased the car - and don't ask why - I never checked the oil in it.... :bash: last night i pulled the stick out - there was not resistance i.e. it did not break.. there was only half there. so the questions is has it always been like this or has it previously broken and the other half is still in the tube and this is were my concern lies. THe car was driven up from geelong on sunday so if it broke in the past one would think that the damage would already have been done. Pushing a break cable through from a bike causes the cable to get stuck half way down and leaves me to think that the other half is still in there..
When you pull the sump off the car you have to remove the dipstick first. If you have the dipstick in place and refit the sump. The dipstick jams and can't be removed. Maybe some gorilla strong-armed the dipstick out after it couldn't be removed and broke it in half. Get a good used one and use that instead, Even if the other half is jammed it won't screw anything up. It will just sit there jammed until someone opens the sump next time.
All good - i Hope the dipstick tube was broken with the previous owners and hadn't been - half dipstick was to seal the opening. Thanks all for your responses.
What Teky said is my exact thoughts. It's an honest mistake done by many who don't know z blocks entirely. As mentioned just get a second handy and use it. Best of luck.
