Last year we/NDSOC started planning a day at DECA in Shepparton, look up "SAU DECA" on youtube, heaps of cool vids. DECA is pretty good because you don't have to be racing against the clock, you can go out to have fun and practice some drifting so it's not too serious unless you're actually trying to go around the cones fastest.
It's an expensive exercise though, $3000 to hire DECA for the day plus the cost of event insurance, st johns ambulance, hiring cones and other misc things... we'd need about 50 competitors to cover the costs and with numbers like that you'd want a large amount of marshalls who also need to be fed and looked after. I think SAU VIC has Carsales as their naming sponsor for DECA so it's easy for them to cover the costs.

I think it's easier to organise a private skidpan hire like we tried with DragTag last year. It's pretty small but it was still good fun... ask Kirby.
Also a drag day would be good, could even organise it against another club. like SAU vs WRX club... they don't really compete for prizes, just bragging rights.

If you're after a track day then it's easier to just organise for a group of us to attend a track day through a club (like NDSOC) or go to one of the DriverDynamics training days.

well . we do have the people i think . if we all put a bit in we can have the track rof the day .

if we pay 200$ 300$ each ( with enough members ) i think its well worth it

Yeah, I thought the price for the DECA day was quite cheap too, I would have been quite willing to pay more so we don't need so many people.

Also means more time on the track.

Also, badxtc, have you looked into joining a club like NDSOC? It is quite cheap ($65 a year plus a $15 joining fee for your first year) and once you have joined up there you can get a CAMS license and there are heaps of track days you can go to. Once you have your license you don't just have to go to track days from your own club too, I gather you can go to days with almost any other club so if you look around you should be able to get on the track almost any weekend.

yeah i was thinking of getting the licence..

well this time round i wanted all of us to go and just have fun on the track but it seems to not go well every time this gets organized , so yeah i think just getting the licence , this way i can go anytime ....

i didn't want to take the car out there and give it heaps , i more jut wanted to go on the track for fun , with some of you boys/ girls , and see what the car will do on the track ,,, but knowing me , i would probably give it heaps anyway ,lol.........

NDSOC meetings are on the first wednesday of each month at Bells in South Melbourne. There are usually a few members from here that go along, if you aim to get there at around 7 you can grab a meal with us, sign up and you are most of the way to getting your CAMS license.

I would love to go to an Aus300ZX track day too, hopefully this DECA thing happens this year. Until then I guess the best thing to do is get your CAMS license and I guess when there is a track day you want to go to post it here and hopefully get as many members to go along and make it a mini Aus300ZX day :)

    I would definitely be keen.

I have a stock(ish) Aus spec NA so I am definitely just in it for a bit of fun. Even 'giving it heaps' I am well aware that I will not be nearly as fast as you guys in your TTs but I am pretty sure I will be having just as much fun.

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Don't "diss" the NA... at the last 'Drag Tag' day, my NA was just as quick around the cones as Ben's (Blipman's) R32 (0.1 seconds in it, in my favour (hand timing)). I would like to try the same thing on a bigger track!

Going on a track is something that needs to be taken seriously. You don't do it "just for a laugh". Diung that puts your life at risk, and also endangers those around you. The DECA day will happen, but it is going to be later in the year unfortunately. We have to get the ZedFest organisation behind us so we can concentrate on it. If members are interested on hitting the track then the best two options are
    • Keep an eye on the Winton Raceway website as they occasionally run family fun days as a way of getting new people into motorsport. It is a cheap way of getting a few laps on the track without the level of seriousness required for regular competition.
    • Join a club like the NDSOC and get a CAMS licence. Get your car ready to compete on the track and there is just about an event on every weekend of the year, from low dollar motorkahanas to big dollar events like the GP rally ($4,000 entry fee). All of these events can be entered with a basic L2 licence and if the bug hits and you want to upgrade you could always enter something like Targa Tas.
