Hi Guys. Putting a new clutch in, and while i was cleaning up the inside of the bell housing, i noticed this hole in the casing where the input shaft comes out. Im making the assumption that it should be there, am i right? Whats it for? Cheers. Col
its a witness hole. for when the gasket or shaft seal goes astray behind the cover, it will dribble gearbox oil out and into the bellhousing, which also has its own witness hole at the bottom for allowing oil and debris out. Water pumps also have witness holes for when the shaft seal fails, lets water past so you can see and attend to it.
