ATTENTION: Date change now 25th September

As discussed over breakfast at the Peir Hotel. I have found out about the track day here at Mallala.

There is a bit of a break over winter so the next logical days are.
    17 July (50% power day)
    20 August (100% power day)

Just to recap the logic behind the two days is that many are first timers, so I suggested that the best way to get started is to just go along to a day without doing heaps of preparation. This can be achieved by not pushing very hard, and showing self control and limit yourself to 50%. That way the loadings on the old girl are less and faults will take longer to appear, also you need not go mental with preparations or modifications. I.e. if you cna drive it there it should be okay.
Also, noting that it is likely to be freezing heat should be less of an issue, and if you have an moment you are very unlikely to leave the track.

We have a whole month then to fix our faults, or make mods, buy new tyres, brakes, fit brake ducts, ground effect trays, what ever, etc. And get back into it for the full power day. (and, I hope we see new tyres need after this day :D)

Then, I look at the next day for us in October.

Of course this is open to the rest of the nation too. I am sure we can accomdate everyone in various places if they wish to attend.
Details are $100 for each full day. You will need an approved helmet, an a 1kg fire extingusher. And noting the length of time to prepare we should have every one there.

it is using the passenger front seat mounts bolts. If you want to grab some alloy I can make up one for you, just need to measure up your car.

The power day is very tempting Dave, although it would mean taking two days off work. Are you sure you need a 1kg extinguisher? I have a 900g one fitted.

Sure, I am. Also I not going to start a list of who is going. These things are to constraining, it is a turn up on the day item. I have checked the regs too, it is a 900kg extinguisher (sorry pete).

adding an extra 0.9 tonnes would throw off the weight distribution wouldn't it?

Do you need a helmet for the 50% power day? Is there a place you can hire helmets or what/where would be a good place to get one?

Well they are the rules. It suck having to tow a trailer around with a great big fire extinguisher on it, but that is our safety concious society requirements.

Do you know anyone who rides a motorcycle? Maybe you could borrow theirs. I seem to recall Dave saying that you can use one.

BTW, I'm just waiting for Ashley from Classic Performance Dynos to email me back. It looks like it's going to be $50 per car but with a whole heap of diag work done, not just 3 powers runs and you're off! 10 car minimum, 15 car max. I will post the official EOI as soon as I get a full list of services for the day.

Am looking at organising it late June, early July.

Sorry Dave, didn't mean to poach your thread! :sorry:

    Helmets and hijacked threads

No worries Jaz. Now go and get you own thread :D, I want to dyno my road car.

As for the Helmet; yes you'll need one for the 50% day. The 50% day is a day when we have our own session, and we set a theoretical limit of 50% of the cars potential. So we only use 50% of the car's maximum power, 50% of hte brakes, 50% of conering potential, etc. The idea being that it is is a nice easy start for those who haven tracked their car before, and as mention earlier they need not do any preparations with their car, other than the extinguisher. Bunnings have these for sale at $34.90 with the required metal bracket.
As for the helemt, yes a motor bike helmet is fine. any thing with a Snell 2000 rating (which all motor bike helmets are). I would be loathed to hire one as it would more than likely be disgusting (think of the heads being shared), and just as expensive as a second hand one from cash convertors. Check ebay too I saw some corkers when I was looking at ridiculously low prices, ($20, with snell rating)
