Hi everyone, ive been in the U.S for the past 2 1/2 years and have at long last returned home and can now drive my car which i have missed I havent driven the car for 2 years, but it has been started weekly and run for 30 mins while i have been gone Is there any thing i should do to it or take a look at before taking it out for a run,im aware of the standard things such as spark plugs/oil change and probably refresh the fuel car is a 1991 t/t 2+0 thanks in advance for any advice Jeff
Should be fine mate, I'd just check for any fuel smells around the engine, if you have data scan I'd run that to.
If it's been started regularly as stated, there shouldn't be anything to do(except refresh the fuel). Spark plugs aren't likely to have suffered any adverse issues, so don't really need changing. The oil MAY have slight contamination from condensation inside the engine, however, that would seem unlikely as it has been run regularly. Just jump in and drive the little bugger(that will likely redress any minor issues that are lurking around). Get out there and "blow the cobwebs" out of your baby!!! ENJOY!!! Welcome back home!:br:
If it was jacked off the ground then don't worry about this. If wasn't, your tyres will be squared off, trick of the trade, deflate them to about 15psi. Drive for a little bit, pump them back up to normal and see how you go. Just hope your wheel bearings haven't seized up.
As part of general maintenance check for fault codes once it's started just to make sure all the connectors and sensors are functioning. With 2.5 years of sitting around be very careful the first time you drive it in the wet, tyres don't get better with age, consider replacing them if they don't hold up.
Mine sat unused for 3 years, and after putting in a new battery it started straight away. Didn't get flat spots on the tyres but put some new ones on as the old ones were flogged out anyway. Wheel bearings were already needing replacement before I put the car into storage so its not going to be a problem for me replacing them. The only other thing I did was put new oil in the engine and cleaned the electrical connectors in the engine bay that hadn't already been cleaned and dielectric greased already.
thanks guys, everything went perfect and was a dream to drive All i did was an oil change and fitted brand new tyres and new spark plugs on before the run,did 300kms without missing a beat, may go on the GOR cruise and try to meet a few members here if im not working
