I know of two people who had metal cats and the cats destroyed themselves (no pinging / running rich etc).. possibly just faulty but i'm not sure. I would say there are better things to spend your money on as opposed to buying high flow cats (bit of a gimmick if you ask me) but if your cats are stuffed then go for it :)

    Yeah I think

my old cats aren't too good. Going to replace the whole exhaust its rather shabby. Got some dump pipes and front pipes arriving soon so I should replace the cats too.

    Exchange rates

I think the aussie dollar buys about 86 US cents atm so it would work out a little cheaper, but yeah I'm a little impatient when it comes to getting stuff for da zed.
What do you think of your magna flow cats compared to the stock ones?
    What size did you get?

    Cheers

Chad and his famous catalytic converter obsession! lol

That's the exact same seller I got my cat from except I got 3" of course, you wont beat $195 for the price as no exhaust shop sells them that cheap as far as I'm aware.

It really isn't that big of a deal, all of these brandname cats would perform around the same. I would expect Metalcat and Catco's hi-flo cat to out flow Magnaflow ever so slightly as they're almost double the price but overall the difference would be negligible. They're all the same cell count as far as I'm aware (400 cells per square inch) and are pretty much the same size/shape as each other.

    Sounds good

Just placed my order for a pair of 2 1/2 inch. $428 delivered is a good price.

That's it, Catco's uber high flow cats are more than that RRP just for one! Especially for you guys, a grand on cats is just crazy! lol As I said I'm sure the top price ones do flow the best ever so slightly but it couldn't be by much (if even noticable) and definately not worth twice the price for it imo.

Metalcat's cell count is 200 cells per square inch, not sure about the others mentioned. Downside is good luck finding any 2.5" metalcats at the moment...

Have sold around 60 metalcats and never heard of any problems, besides which they have warranties. I would be very sceptical of the ones you know of actually being genuine metalcats.... magic cat are a similar design all-metal catalytic converter that I have seen (first hand) self-destruct but that is a problem with the way the biscuit is manufactured.

I have heard of catco saying metalcat are no good, and of metalcat saying catco are no good so go figure ;)

A couple of points in general (why not add a third post to this thread anyway...)

When they say they are EPA and/or CARB compliant make sure details are stamped on the body of the cat. If not stamped then take the seller's claims with a grain of salt.

Ask for actual bench-tested CFM and ask what the bench was set at, again if the seller can't supply then take their claims with a grain of salt.

    Yeah magnaflow claims to be

compliant with epa & carb laws on their website, for the US anyhow.

Just hope the items I bought off ebay are genuine magnaflow, its always a risk you take buying stuff off ebay I suppose.
Anyway on a positive note I received my dump & front pipes today, I believe they are the same as the ones PZP was selling, they look great.

On a negative note my zed sprung a leak behind the motor somewhere, lost probably 4 liters before I noticed. :( Had to let her cool down for awhile before topping her up then driving a K or so home. So looks like I'll be doing a plenum pull to get at the offending hose/leak. Had a quick look in the tech section & search, I'll need plenum gasket, assorted hoses, maybe do a bypass  . Thinking of doing away with the heater core as I never use the heater or the air con for that matter. What else should I be doing while the plenums off? Detonation sensor.....

They were genuine - as for the warranty, they asked for proof that the car wasn't detonating or running extremely rich when being tuned, dyno graphs were provided to prove this and they still didn't honor the warranty and just gave some other random excuse about being able to prove it was the chart during the time the cats died.

I got a pair of them in 2.5". The D/S failed 2 weeks after installation, the centre was rolling around inside the sheel but not colapesed. Got it replaced under warranty and no issues 14 months later, fingers crossed.
