Hey zedders the story starts with my old man booking in the family daily in for a power flush before summer. its a standard v6 2000 holden. He gets it back and naturally i like to check things over for him. Open the cap and Its ORANGE!:confused:

Ring the bloke up and he said that they have scrapped the v6 spec GMH fluds and replaced with the GMH orange V8 LS1 / V6 Alloytech spec coolant for all models. They claim its much better than regular spec and was introduced for the full range of alloy head / block motors. I said fair enough as long as its interchangeable with the old stuff and friendly to the older motor and its headgaskets. I checked with 3 or 4 other mechanics and they agree.

Discussion is now would this GMH orange coolant be any use for A zed motor. It comes in at around $40 wholesale for enough concentrate for 10L. GMH would have put in hours of tests on this coolant before introducing it into their alloy range so would it be any good to us in the Japanese side?

I have yet decided to use it or become the "ginnue pig" to test this out. I am due for a flush but would like to know from the more chemical mided here on wether its a good idea or a stupid one. :

    Many thanks

    Frank ;)

Might be ok, but there isnt that much alloy in the Zed motor, its actually usually the steel pipes etc that corrode first

The Nulon Long Life Coolant is what I use and is guaranteed for use in ALL engines, even comply's with HN2043 which is GM spec for v6 engines. Price of this stuff varies from $35 on special to a regular of about $45 and that is retail prices. It's also a concentrate that makes 10 Litres.

Consindering you don't need to change the coolant that often (~3-5years), is it really worth looking into an unknown?

Red coolant offers no more or no less than other well named coolants. Nulon make a red coolant. The primary reason for it's existence is that it is more environmentally friendly, and hence most new cars are running it.

The downside is that they are not mixable, you can not mix red and green coolant, and unless you are 100% sure you've removed all glycol based coolant then don't use red.
