I am thinking of cutting back because I am building house and broke as hell and no i don't want to sell the Z. so the options should i get a LPG coversion or get it tuned for fuel economy? Problem with LPG 1. Cost about $3000 and I will have to go to pits to get LPG put on my rego so I can claim the gov rebate. Being a import I will rather not go to the pits danger zone. There is some new rule that I will have to go through IMC40 test because its 1990 model. 2. I can choose not to go to pits but then first I will not get the rebate and if I decide to sell the car the new owner will have to get the LPG put on into the car rego which means he will have to go to pits Tuned 1. My car has stock ECU or computer whatever its called so it will cost me about $700 to get it tuned for fuel economy? but is the worth it? how much i will be saving? Mine is TT What you guys think?
700??? maybe not....hit up members such as andymac, 90ttz and kzed and see if they can make you a chip programmed to have better fuel economy
so it cost more then 700? none of those guys in perth so even if they make the chip someone needs to put it in. but thanks I will ask them
Get a cheap daily and leave the Zed in the shed. Or just spend all that money on fuel that you wanted to spend on improving economy. You won't improve it much at all.
the chip from one of those three should only cost around 100 ....depends... not sure on how much it would cost for someone to put it in for you though sorry...maybe a wa member knows how it is done....but then sometimes you need to dyno tune it too...not sure if that the case here though
i have consider that option too but then the cost buying= $3000 approx for a cheap and decent looking one rego = $450 a year fuel == $$ So it really defeats the purpose isn't it?
The majority of economy woes for normal driving are related to maintenance rather than a tune. Things like O2's, vac leaks, connector corrosion, etc, etc as around town your in closed loop, and the ecu is trying to reach a stoich burn through the output of the O2's,etc etc etc. SO the biggest impacts to economy are as follows. Vac leaks, O2's, timing, right foot.
lol i have a burner. so do a few other blokes !! chips cost 10 bucks each lpg??? seriously why would u even consider that. if your that worried about fuel econnomy you can run your turbos at 7psi. put a nice restrictive exhaust on . put a stock air box ... and have a 4k rev limiter
O2 sensor may be but it didn't show any codes? not sure if they are ****ed but mostly likely they will be as i haven't changed them in last 3 years right foot, I am watching it vac leaks= can u do any testing for this to find out? or code perhaps? timing??
O2's won't throw generally throw a code. They usually slow down or stick on one end of the spectrum and continually tell your ecu that your running lean (add more fuel) or running rich (lean it out) vac leaks can be found by what we call a "boost leak tester", simple plug that goes on the AFM and allows you to pressurise the intake, and consequently listen for escaping air from the afore mentioned leaks. timing, probably something you want to get someone else to check, but to put it short, if your timing to too far advanced or retarded, then it can be a cause for low power and increased consumption. O2's and vac leaks are 2 of the most covered topics in this place, tech section will have a wealth of knowledge, so will a quick search of the forum.
Get one of the Forum members to make you a ecconomy tuned chip and take the chip and your ecu to a local tv repair shop get them to put it in for you they should only charge you $20 to put it in
Dude, just drive your car nicely... Dont gun it unless u have some extra cash for fuel that week I get 500kms to the tank if i take it easy... With Mines ecu (Fuel heavy), Pod, exhaust etc etc... My mates ford falcon chews up more than my Z!
Agree just keep your foot off the gas, if you can. Lpg costs less and it does burn cooler, but for the outlay its not worth it imo, unless your doing a lot off miles.
if talking about saving FUEL costs then you're right, buying a daily doesn't really help as you spend the money before you save it. however.... if you are talking about RUNNING COSTS of a zed, vs buying a daily, it makes sense. Daily cheaper and easier to fix. Zed for the weekends Depending on where you work and what you need a daily for, you could even get a small bike/scooter and travel for next to nothing. When I was trying to save money on fuel costs coz we had a Falcon and a 180sx, I looked into dropping LPG into the Falcon..... Decided the better option was to sell the falcon and get an Excel
its nice to want the top stuff but if youre trying to save money just get a cheap bike... sure its not gonna be as fast as what you want but you're only on it too and from work, as long as it gets ya there who cares!!
EXACTLY! I'm sooo tempted to get a moped and then "rice" it up for a laugh However I'm lucky enough to be close enough to work at the mo to Cycle in.... except today.... when I was pumping up the bike tyres, I looked over my sholder at the Zed.....looked at the time....and thought "na....I'll be late if I ride" and jumped in the Zed :zlove: That'll teach me for washing it on the weekend and making it all shiney looking :zlove:
