My low fuel light isnt working and i know this for a fact because i have run the zed very close to stalling twice now! I want to replace it and from what i have gathered it takes a T10 wedge globe! Now my question is, with this picture i have stolen from the tech article is it the globe circled in yellow that is the low fuel globe? and is it possible to pull the globe out without disconnecting the cluster and just removing all the surrounding trim? Cheers
The low fuel warning light is on the Gage inside the cluster, the light you have circled is just for illumination.
No, that is the low fuel light. You can replace it by just removing the gauge hood which is only held in by 2 screws.
Just pulled it out and tested it on a socket i had and it wasnt blown lights up perfect ! Is there any other reason why it doesn't illuminate?
Only other way to test the low fuel warning is to remove the fuel pump/sender unit and physically lift the float up and down to check if it comes on and at what fuel level.
The 2+0 has two senders, its the one closest to the drivers side( from memory) you need to test like a2zed said. Not sure what the 2+2 has in the way of senders, i think its only 1 sender. Or you could unplug the connector to the fuel sender on top of the tank and bridge the wires, see if the light comes on then, sender you want to try is on the rhs in the pic.
Don't use a led globe in the low fuel as they have a habbit of glowing even when full. There is another way to check , get a mate with the same car to run it until the low fuel light comes on the swap in your dash and see what happens. I don't see the big deal just don't run the tank under 1/4 . If you need a light to tell you your fuel is low you shouldn't be driving a car.
If you have a check in the workshop manual - its got the colourcodes for the connectors into the pump - on the 2+2 it isn't triggered by the height of the float in the tank, there is another little unit in there mounted partway down the cradle for the pump which creates an open circuit when its not submerged in the fuel. I had the same problem with mine - checked the wiring from the plug at the top of the tank and the light worked, I ended up swapping the low level sender and its been fine since.
