Loud clunking and banging sound.

Took the poor bitch out for a drive after a few months and when I take off from the lights, I get a strange banging and clunking noise until I ease off. Its so bad that the centre console feels like its going to jump off

The noise is coming directly under the centre console lid. Its some scary shit. Its not the axle tramp issue that I had before I am thinking engine mount? gearbox mount? drive shaft?

Will get under it tomorrow and have a look just want some ideas on what it could be.

 

Possibly mounts but most probably the centre bearing.

 

Thanks, done a search on centre bearing and someone seems to have the exact same problem as I do! Will confirm tomorrow and if so, will save us some pennies and put in a one piece.

Symptoms of a shot tailshaft centre bearing, one piece is the way to go.

 

do these come pre-fab? or do they need to be custom made?

 

Either, in most cases it is cheaper to just have it done locally by a reputable engineering company(such as Hardie Spicer).

 

If you want one custom made in perth talk to phill at final drive.

Just doing some reading, the carbon fibre one piece is ~4kg (2006 thread were 1400$AUD/delivered to door) ? how much would an aluminum one weigh?
