SO i think i may have it figured out, since i put my slotted nose panel on and drove in te wet/washed my car i get a lose of power whislt driving. I removed the nose panel to check the air pod filter underneath and i couldnt tell if it was soaked but it was a little wet.

Could this be the cause of my power loss...?

Most likely a wet afm not knowing wtf is going on because the signal is getting interrupted.

agreed, take it out and leave it in the sun for a little while for it to dry. while its out you may aswell clean it with some carby cleaner

Sorry Ive missed any other posts relating to what sort of power loss your experiencing.

The air filter being damp wouldn't cause power loss IMO. You can tell when water is hitting the hot wire in the AFM because the car will really splutter. Its not just a general loss in power, rather something very abrupt that comes and goes as the water droplets hit the wire each time then evaporate/suck into the engine.

If you're just noticing a general lack of power then its my guess you will find the cause somewhere else. Anyways, easy enough to find out for sure by just drying your filter and seeing :)

Well it does, go soak your filter in water and then put it back on and see what happens. You watch your car barely start, and then struggle to idle and generally run like crap. Even condensation making the afm damp can cause screwy readings, it doesnt have to be dripping wet just water vapour in the air can do it.

It does just come and go, and only in the wet. So i'm assuming it is doing what your suggesting.

    Edit!
Myself and Oz300 spent the better half of saturday working on my Zed (thanks Pete) cleaning coilpacks and injector connectors. Couldnt see much else wrong, took it for a drive and it was fine, then it rained today and while driving trying to accelerate it would back off every now and then when i pkanted my foot... so yeah. thats why i think its what you guys have suggested.

There is water vapour in the air 100% of the time and it doesnt cause screwy readings. Cant say I am hearing many of the guys in Sydney or Brisbane complaining their cars power is way down with the humdity there.

Plus what your describing is matching exactly what I said. An abundance of water, so much so that the droplets are passing through the filter causes very erratic behaviour from the engine. It doesnt just cause a smooth and balanced generalised loss of power. Its typically as obvious as dogs balls when water is getting through.

Like I said, if he just feels like the engine power is down a bit, then I cant see it being a wet filter. If when hes driving in the wet, the car is spluttering and dying and the power is coming and going, then thats water. As I said b4 I havent heard his description of the problem so cant comment further.

The symptoms you describe are the ones i have.... so yeah... any other fix other than putting stock nose panel back on?

Was it just on acceleration? And was it just at the start of accelerating from cruising, and it just felt like it wasnt doing anything for a second then suddenly kicks in, or was it spluttering and dying?

Scott dropped in during the weekend and we checked for codes - code 55 all good, checked connectors - CTS, coilpack, injector connectors. Most connectors are near new and all are in good condition. Took car for a drive and it was running sweet.

Therefore, it's highly likely it's what you suspect and moisture is getting to the AFM. I recall you were heading off to wash it after you left my place. Did you have problems after that? If moisture is the problem, it would have been fun driving this afternoon in the rain. :D:D:D

Why not put the original centre panel back on for a few weeks and see if that changes things. Or parhaps try installing a splashguard to protect the air filter? Also, I have a HKS mushroom shaped POD filter I'm not using atm that you could try and see if that makes a difference.

    Cheers,

    Peter

    Ah ok.

Nah you can leave your panel on. The fix is usually pritty easy. This is seen most often from guys going to twin intake.

All you need to do is shield the filter from the direct stream of the water coming through the nose. Its usually pritty easy to fabricate something. Doesnt have to be pritty as no one will see it :) Either that or relocate the intake further to the side.

Yeah Pete after the wash it wasnt the most fun to drive lol, yay atleast i know what it is.... do they make splash guards you can purchase (dumb question) and if so who whould i speak to?

thank god thats over Hey Pete... had me freaking clueless after saturday.

Sydney and Brisbane aint a merky swap with alligators dude, it's not THAT humid! lol

If it were me I'd find a nose panel that doesnt have a seriously bad design flaw or at least block the slots up.

Dude, relative humidity in Sydney right now is still 60% :)

I swear, living in Sydney felt like living in Bali. Compared to Perth it is very humid.

Mate in summer some days in bris are pretty much unbearable. Not quite as bad as cairns, but its up there, maybe you live in aircon 24/7 lol.

I live in Brisbane aswell. I'm just saying, it's not humid to the point you're sucking up mist in the intake! lol I lived in Atlanta, Georgia for nearly 2 years trust me you guys dont know what humidity is until you've felt the southern heat in the USA.

This si true, much appreciated by the way :) freaking crazy how such a little thing (drops of water water) can cause something like that.
