Looking at a '89 TT Manual Z

hi guys, new to the forum..i'm looking at buying my first z, more specifically this one

what's everyone think of it? i've been told it has a few cosmetic problems (drivers side air con vent not working, clip on sun viser thing broken and a few small things) but other than that it has regular servicing..100000km service has been done..full mechanic review has been done..all receipts available...anything i should look out for?

Sounds good from the description. Take it for a test drive and beat the hell out of it! If it breaks down, dont buy that one! lol

welcome to the forum .. and a nice looking unit .... a couple of points ...

AMEC serviced .. have forum member fleet ( peter owns AMEC) give you a run down on the vehicle ...

having spent $25,000 on car/upgrades in 6 months, why is he selling it for $15,000 all of a sudden .... ????? ..

mileage on a 1989 zed, as quoted .... ??? .. not likely, as for 99% of imports from japan ....

thanks for the welcome i sent a pm to pete and he confirmed all the work done but said there was smoke coming from one of the exhausts which may be problematic lol the reason he is selling it for 15000 is he paid 12000 for it six months ago (aftermarket parts are worth essentially nothing when you go to sell the car) and he is moving interstate soon so he has to sell it..plus he has told me the car had 120k when he got it but when he changed the cluster (speedo wasnt working) it screwed up and is now reading 86000 or whatever

 

had a drive of/look at the car..most likely not going to buy it..too many problems (body has alot of cracks, bad paintwork etc) and the interior has problems as well..it would be a very good car to have if you had the money to fix up the problems (and replace the turbos when they go)..there was white smoke coming from the right exhaust (when revving)..very nice car to drive though (my first drive of a z )

 

good decision ... around that price there should be

enough zeds in much better condition on the market ...

 

yep..i understand he focused all his attention on the performance side of the car but it has too many problems with the body work and interior for 15 grand..I'd pay maybe 10 grand and spend the rest fixing it up..and I'm not sure if the white smoke coming out one of the right exhaust means maybe the driviers side turbo is on its way out maybe?

 

update: so i offered 12 grand and he's happy to sell for 12 grand cash...selling with the original bonnet and piping as well so atm i'm thinking of buying..i can fix up the faults and still come in under 15 grand

I'd want fleet to have a look at the car again to see what he thinks the cause for that exhaust smoke is. Could be nothing serious but could be something with the turbos and if it is you'd blow the budget of 15k pretty easily... But just my 2 cents!

 

thanks..i'm gonna tell him the sale is subject to passing a compression test..how long do compression tests take to do (probably get done at AMEC)? not very long i assume

 

White smoke

from either exhaust is not a good sign, depending on what's wrong, which could be any number off things, I'd be very carefull with this sale. Black smoke yes, white smoke

 

if it passes a compression test then what are the remaining things it could be? (and if u are knowledgeable..how much to fix it?)

ok..any one know how much does pete charges for a pre-purchase inspection? i know a compression test is 77 bux..
