Hi guys first time posting, been reading for a while.
just got a 1996 auto twin turbo 2 seater with targa top. Sent it over to get a Vic RWC and this is what the report came back with

    Drivers seat torn
Brake pedal hard ( booster not working??)
Relocate turbo timer and oil gauge
Wheel brace and jack not secured
    Secure battery
    Front caster rod bushes split
    drivebelts cracked
    power steering pump leaking
    engine oil leaks
    L/H steering rack ends worn
    rear shocker lower bushes split
    rear steering rack ends worn
    L/H rear tiered end worn
Oil pressure wiring hanging on rack
    Adjust H/brake
    no reverse lights

I understand there are some real simple fixes in there, but also some stuff I wouldn't know where to start. Can people give me some tips on where to start and maybe somewhere I can get some of the required things cheap?? wreckers?
    Cheers
    Stuart

Welcome to the madness Stuart :)

Best place to buy parts for the zed would be www.conceptzperformance.com as Coz is always a lot cheaper to buy from than from Nissan & most other places & even though it is an american site, shipping is within a week or so & his customer service is excellent.

If you need somebody to do any zed work for you, then Tektrader (Graham) is the man to talk to. He lives in Berwick & is worth the drive if its not close to you. Just make sure he is not studying or working & he is very helpful & knowledgable.

    Hope that helps

honestly looking at that list it seems like you just dropped a freshly bought car on their door step and they threw the book at you.

Drivers seat torn - buy a second hand seat off these forums. not expensive.
Brake pedal hard ( booster not working??) - change booster, flush fluids and check if calipers are not seized. if caliper rubbers are gone and it needs rebuilding it'll cost
Relocate turbo timer and oil gauge - remove both and put back in later if you want them
Wheel brace and jack not secured - just secure them with some velcro or go to a wrecker and get the standard foam pieces needed. alternatively find some polystyrene and make some holders yourself.
Secure battery - secure it then... battery tie down is a $10 part from any car shop.
Front caster rod bushes split - buy second hand ones with good bushes or replace the bushes, not expensive.
drivebelts cracked - change them, belts are like $10 ea.
power steering pump leaking - change it with a good one from a wrecker.
engine oil leaks - where from?
L/H steering rack ends worn - replace with second hand ones with good rubber bits
rear shocker lower bushes split - change to aftermarket shocks. probably needs it anyway.
rear steering rack ends worn - buy second hand ones with good bushes or replace the bushes, not expensive.
L/H rear tiered end worn - buy second hand ones with good bushes or replace the bushes, not expensive.
Oil pressure wiring hanging on rack - umm... fix it?
Adjust H/brake - rear wheels off to adjust and then remove centre console to adjust handle if needed.
no reverse lights - cun t of a job, see here

Should I run the error codes? a few people have said the transmission problems could be ECU related?

    What....

....transmission problems are you referring to?
    Who are these "few people"?
    Are they familiar with Z32's?
Your best bet would be to host a tech day & have a few local forum members check out your Z.

It seems to rev very hight before changing gears, the few people were 2 nissan wreckers that had auto transmissions for sale, I started talking to them to get an idea of what a 2nd hand one would cost for worst case options. They mentioned to check the ECU before doing anything to the transmission.
Im not very familiar with the Z32, I'm trying to fumble my way though and ask as many questions as possible.

How do I host a Tech day?? and what is involved? would love a local forum member to have a look over! I can supply beers and BBQ or whatever the standard mates rates are?

Standard mates rates IS beers and a bbq :p

Go onto the coming events page, look for an event listed as a tech day, and write yours up in a format similar to that, obviously as a new event. Forum members will let you know if they are coming in that thread.

Revving high before changing gear is also indicitiveof the tps set incorrect. If you turn the ignition on but not actually start the car is there a buzzing sound. If not try gently depressing the throttle and see if there is. It should buzz when the throttle is pressed yes but not when it is fully out. If the buzz is always there definately get your tps voltage checked ( sorry throttle position sensor) I would suggest getting one of the more well known forum guys something to soften them up some and see if they are inclined to have a look over the car for you

    I can appreciate.....

....there is a learning curve when you become involved with these cars.
Rather than seek information from professional wreckers, you have done the correct thing & introduced yourself here, with a few of your problems.
One of the first things you should do, is download a Nissan Factory Service Manual, you will find it invaluable for information on your car.
Whatever is wrong with your car, or whatever may go wrong with it, chances are someone on this forum has also encountered the same issues.
A Tech Day, is a gathering of members to help diagnose & hopefully repair problems with their Z's.
It is also a good opportunity to introduce yourself & meet the other forum members in your locality.
There is an event co-ordinator in each State, contact your co-ordinator & request a tech day, a suitable location that can accommodate a number of cars would be required & preferably have 240VAC power available.
As far as sourcing parts, look in the Z Related for sale section, plenty of parts are available, you can also post in the Wanted Section as another option.

When you turn the ignition there is a buzzing sound, when you press the accelerator it disappears. Does that sound like tps????

    ECU Codes

I just ran the error codes, my 21yr old brother was recording them for me so he's not 100% sure that what he got was right......
He thinks we got 26, 35, 34 then on the 2nd go we got 55 3rd try 55 does it reset after the first go? do I have to go out and drive the car to get the errors to come back????

I understand 55 is all ok

I expect that checking and setting the TPS voltage may indeed help your gear change situation. It is possible to do this with a multimeter however it would be a lot easier for you however to get someone with experience to show you how, not that it is hard but these cars can quickly overpower the beginners senses and become very daunting.
