hey guys n gals is there anyway to lean out the a/f mixture without using like an safc or similar? will the Z ecu dump more fuel in if i increase the boost to like 12 psi?, EDIT: or will increasing boost lean out my mixture? and is 12psi safe to run without an aftermarket ecu or rom?
12psi is ok! No the ecu wont dump more fuel if you increase boost, you will lean out when your injectors reach there limit, not likely at 12psi, If your car is running rich, like they all do! check your 02's one or both may be dead.
If you are still running stock ECU tune, what you need to be careful of is detonation. The stock tuning is to aggresive for our 98 PULP to increase boost too much. 12PSI should be your aboslute maximum, even there I would not recommend it. As for modifying your fuel mixture, you really need to verify via datascan that your O2 sensors are working properly, even if they are new then maybe an issue with the wiring harness. How do you know that it is running rich? Most Jap tunes do run rich but really only shows through a wide band O2 display. If it is obviously running rich (black smoke) you may have issues with a fuel pressure regulator or a faulty injector. Never try to lean the mixture via any means apart from ECU tuning or interceptor methods (SAFC), you really are playing with fire if you do otherwise.
was just trying to increase the milage, im getting 350km to the tank... not too good, most ppl are about 400-450 at least. and with that 350km, i dont hoon much at all...
Yes 350KM to a tank is not right. Get access to datascan if you don't have it and check the O2 sensors are working correctly. Make sure when you check them you hold the revs around 2000 so they work correctly, they should bounce up and down quite quickly after initial warm up. Also check causes for high fuel consumption in the A-Z index in the tech section. Chances are the ECU may have a code 34 fault which increases fuel consumption quite dramatically. This can easilly be checked by doing an ECU diagnostic also in the tech section. Edit: just noticed you are in Perth, many knowledgeable zeders over the like Zrated, minivan and ZWEET and although none of these guys Zeds actually work at the moment is not an indication of their capability to fix your problem
ZOMG HAHAHAHAAH, i found that totally hilarious!!! yeah i tried doing an error check a while ago, but couldnt get it to work. im hoping to get a datscan done soon... SHAQ!!!!!! HELP ME!!
An ECU diagnostic check is very simple, you just need a piece of wire (speaker wire for example) and connect it to the two pins the tech article shows and follow the rest of the procedure. Datascan is an awesome investment for our cars, mine has paid for itself over and over.
i've tried the diagnostic with a paper clip but nothing happened... no flashing lights... maybe im doing it wrong...
Follow the tech article and keep trying until the light flashes. Sometimes I can get it first go, other times it takes at least 5 minutes and zlove is sorley tested!
datascan advice, spend the $120.00 or so on datascan, will be the best money you've ever spent on the car
Paper clip does work but they don't conduct anywhere near as well as a piece of insulated copper wire. It's always a hit and miss with the old paper clip for that very reason.
Paperclip has never not worked for me once I learnt how to do it. I was just being too tentative when I started. Make sure you've got the right pins, and make sure you apply a bit of pressure.... Note: Everything from the second line on had to be continuously reworded so that it wouldn't become someones sig line....lol.
ECU rich lean adjuster screw What is the purpose of this adjuster. Is there a section in the service manual for its function. Cheers
Theres an ecu rich/lean adjuster screw?!?! Where pray tell did you recieve this information?!?! The only adjustment screw in a stock zed is the idle adjustment screw located just near the battery positive teminal.
I am surprised no one has heard of this screw just make sure you use a left handed screwdriver for a lean mixture and a right handed screwdriver for a rich mixture. The location of the adjusting screw is next to the ejector seat button.
