Hey guys ... I just filled up the tank in my new Z then parked at bursons 2 minutes later on a slight angle ... I came outside to discover a stream of petrol running off my tank into a puddle on the ground :( I parked when i got to a friends house 10 minutes later & it had stopped leaking but then i noticed it again when i stopped driving later in that day .... i had a quick look and it seems to be coming from the top passenger side corner of the tank ...
I have never seen it drip before when i had been filling up my tank (ive only had this car one week ... & have filled it up 3 times so far :) )

I have had the same economy since i bought it (approx 320kms to a full tank for a TT) & I have never stopped shortly after filling up petrol which is why i haven't noticed the leak before .... Im guessing its a hole at the top which only leaks to a level just below the hole and when im turning right .... could this be the fuel filler neck? is in a easy replacement? and what is the "average" fuel consumption for a TT 300?

Well... it's a nice sunny day in melbourne today so It's probably a result of your petrol heating up and expanding... it's nice and cool in the underground storage tanks so when you fill up your tank with coldish petrol, as the petrol heats up it expands and leaks out (not sure if there's an overflow release in the zed but i remember seeing a magna leaking out fuel on a hot day from below the fuel filler neck...)

you can check your filler neck to see if that's the culprit... just go for a quick drive and make a series of hard right hand turns (or round abouts) and then stop and see if petrol has leaked out of the fuel filler (open up the fuel flap and look for petrol) or you might see it running down your quarter panel. also you should be able to hear the "whoosh" noise when you open your fuel tank as the vapours are released... if you don't hear it (it may take a little while for the vapours to build up) then it's a sign that your tank isn't holding pressure.
    It's a pretty easy fix: http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265345&highlight=fuel+filler+neck
or check the tech section for wykked's article: http://tech.aus300zx.com/faq/fuel.htm

yeah this first happened on saturday morning ... it seemed like a bit too much petrol pissing out the back to be caused by expansion within 2 minutes of filling up my tank.... as for the pressure in the tank ill have to listen out for then noise when i fill up again tonight i cant remeber hearing it previous times ... i notice it does leak out of the tank a little when i make right turns but i haven't seen any fuel come out of the filler cap or on the quater panel

Thanks for those links ill have a look through them now :)

How long were you the shops for? I'm fairly sure it's just expansion. I filled up, drove 20 kms, left the car on an angle on a hot day (fill point/passanger side of car lower than other side) and when I came back there was a puddle of fuel under my car around a meter square. More was leaking but it evaporating fast. I think a siphon effect starts up once it gets going. Opening the petrol cap stopped the leak right away.

Don't stress too much, but check the seal just to be safe. Just stop at the first click and try not to park on an angle when it's full. ;)

It has happened twice to me in the last month. Both times I've pulled the fuel cap off and the gas kept pouring out. Expansion of the cold fuel sounds very likely.

hmmm i dont seem to have any petrol coming out the filler cap & i checked when i filled up and it doesn't make the "whoosh" pressure release sound ... haven't filled my tank more than 1/2 for the last couple of days though

ps anyone heard of a 300 with plates "FL4SH" .... i park near it everyday in the car park behind my work ..... its mint (unlike mine which has dirt up to my windows :( )
