What an AWESOME day! Huge thanks to Dustin & 260DET for organising this event. The day ran very smoothly, on time and with a great turnout. :zlove: Thanks also to Martin and Troy who were next to me in the carports and gave this track newbie great advice on the way to drive the course that kept me on the track the whole day. Great watching 90TTZ, ztoy and other 300ZX's on the track, along with classic Z cars and a wide variety of other makes & models. My best lap was 1:11 on street tyres (Federal 595's) and ran in the 1:11's the whole last run, so was pretty happy with that for my first track day! Enjoy the pics and looking forward to LapZ at the Lake 2012!!! EDIT: My showbag disappeared sometime during the afternoon. If anyone picked it up by mistake, I'd really like my LapZ at the Lake 2011 cap as a memento of my first track day! Mine! :zlove: Hard to get decent track shots with phone camera...
It was a fantastic day. I was glad to have the practice sessions in the morning as my suspension had changed since the last time I was out. I was running slower than my PB which I attribute to the exhaust work that I have recently done to shut my car up. (added cats and center muffler). I was running consistent low 67sec laps which I am happy with. I didn't want to push it too much harder as there were enough close calls with others that day
I'm really pleased everyone had a blast, now you know why I do these sprints. It was great to see quite a few more Z32s than normal, lets see more of you at the sprints, its a great day.
Was a great day. The rain seemed to threaten quite a few times but it never got bad enough to make it slippery. My first time doing sprints, only ever competed in drags. Now I know why everyone says drag racing is boring, I had an absolute blast. I started the day doing 74 seconds and ended up working that down to 69 which a lot of people seemed to think that was pretty good for a first go but I attribute some of that skill form go-karting. My Z ran extremely well considering it had to travel from Dalby and back (600+KM's) and then being thrashed around the track. I ended up running only 13PSI boost as a shot of 20PSI helped me get unstack around the most troublesome corner for most punters and I ended up sliding down a grass hill and hit some tyres (check pics for aftermath). However only a flesh wound, I kept going and managed to keep second place in my class beaten by an RB30ET powered 240Z on slicks. Had heaps of fun and will be back for another shot next year. Great to meet Kris (Mr G) & Martin Williams and great to share the pits with ZToy.
Nice battle scar, wish I could of made it. I might get my car back together one day hard finding the motivation lately.
Awesome guys Great fun eh?, About time some of you Qlders ventured out onto the track, since Fleet retired it's been left to AZA to wave the flag for you blokes. As iv'e said before, be warned though it's like a drug and you will need your fix sooner than later. Sorry to see the imaculate blue beast sporting battle scars Karl, but thats racing. visit to the panel shop and a bit of paint be as good as new.
Martin Williams has been doing awesome track work in his Z for a few years now, he just does it very quietly. Also forgot to mention at the start of the thread, a huge THANKYOU to Niall (rollin) for getting my car in brilliant condition to attack the track! Watching the massively muscular GTR35 chase down some of the other vehicles looked a lot like this:
Karl... mate what are you doing with that zed on the track... I cringed when I saw those photos, hope it comes back to the perfect car it was.:zlove:
Awesome day out, unfortunately i could only stay til 12 & because of cut hours couldn't get the car where I wanted to do sprints no money But I did brekky & happy laps Heaps of FUN. Which actually made it harder to sit & watch others doing sprints. Anyway just picked up more work so bustin' to get her ready for Jap Nationals in September
What he said.... and some. Jesus man...I was in shock to see that photo with the ding. Well at least that one photo for the scrap book. Hope you don't make a habit of going bush.
Glad you blokes enjoyed yourselves, as Wizard said it is a drug so watch out. My Z has been off the road/track for six months and I am suffering but with Niall/Rollin on the case now it should not be too much longer. The Z Car Club Q should be able to run one next year, a lot of work involved, basically the aim is to break even money wise and foster grass roots motorsport.
I've been doing the sprints for just one year now, so I was pleased to get a PB, 60.78secs. The car is behaving really well, my thanks again to Eric for his great advice, I have plenty more that I can do to the car to make it quicker, but for the time being I will just get used to traveling this fast, then watch out. I have the advantage that the majority of my life is behind me and not a lot to live for, like you younger guys Hoping you will be back on the track again soon Richard, I need your expert advice on how to reach the magical 60sec lap.
You have HEAPS to live for Martin - helping newbies like me get the most out of their track time! I knocked 1.5secs off my time after talking to you about the racing line/braking points to use. :zlove: Much appreciated.
Good zed roll up, I see someone did a 60second, pretty good. Compare below. http://www.natsoft.com.au/cgi-bin/results.cgi?28/04/2011.LAKE.P1
Yes its a great day, A lot of hard work put in by Dusty and Z club of Q. Still 2.5secs slower than Callum, but getting closer
Hes eventually realised that these cars are not there to look pretty, good on you Karl, hope to see you on the track again soon
