    Done :D
the join is now as smooooth as a babies botom ;)
I cant feel the differance between paint/bare steel/bog/fibreglass wing when I run my fingers accross the whole area, thats the best way to describe it... its flush and it flows nicely from one section to the other.
Any minor imperfections will get picked up with the block after the priming is done.

ready for primer.... the rear window will get a basic mask off and a good layer of highbuild primer will be put over the join area and wing mainly and this will then be blocked back ( hand sanding  ) before another coat of primer hits the entire hatch....
The idea being to build up the "worked area" mainly and to blend the thickness out onto the rest of the panel

Bogwork on the skirts and rear valance is next....
fairly straight foward and should be done and primed later today if all goes according to plan.......

Been a boring but busy last couple of days, bog work / sanding / bog work / & more sanding...

But now all the bodykit & damaged bits are done and are in highbuild primer
    :D
Spent a day getting the skirts and rear valance to a point where I was 100% happy with the fill and yesterday was spent on sorting out the original accident damage,
the passengers door (now straight, bogged, and in highbuild)
the passengers rear 1/4 (now straight, bogged, and in highbuild)
drivers side rear 1/4 .... small dent near the bumper / wheel arch join, also now straight, bogged, and in highbuild
    :D

    pics time.....

Stephen masking up the rear window..... Generally I use the 50mm roll of tape to hold the paper in place and get it within 10mm of the edge of the paint.... then I place a 20mm strip to join the larger tape to the actual edge where the paint will go to.....
This allows the thin masking tape to be easily removed and replaced if need be without harming the paper side of things. It also, as I learnt with my ZX should be removed and replaced just before the color coat is applied, My rear hatch has some nasty edges from tape that was placed there from day one of the brazillian conversion......

    Skirt to door reveal join.....

Most glass skirts come with an extra tab so the skirt can be fixed directly to the flat sections of the reveal, personaly I hate that look so I cut em off and and urthane the edges together, then bog em up so it appears to be a part of the car instead of a tacked on bit..

    As Alex had asked earlier......
The bottom section of the damaged passengers door with the "rough bit" ( stoneguard) removed
    :D
This took about 15 mins to remove using a razor sharp 1/2inch wood chisel, it was then sanded smooth and was then ready for primer.
In this pick I've got the door trim off (door latch hanging down) and have started to panel out the damage.... like everything zed related access was limited so it took a bit to get the worst of the dents to come back out to near where they were pre accident.

    Passengers side skirt........ zexy :D

& that damaged door / skirt and rear1/4 damage also finally in highbuild

    NB:
if you have a nice tidy shed with spotless working conditions...... then decide your going to do body work .....
have a good look at the bog dust on the floor... this stuff goes EVERYWHERE ..... forget ever having a clean shed ever again
    :(
I resprayed my bashcar about 5 years ago..... it was yellow back then and I still find yellow flakes even today...., there must be several kilo's of bodywork dust throughout my shed

    today tasks:
block back the highbuild primer ...... BORING
mask off the rest of the car .......... mmmmmm
prep for full prime tommorow .........

    well thats the plan atleast

Very nice work Kingy, your a dedicated father for sure doing this for your son...Im guessing he would be helping you out a fair bit as well though, I remember you like to teach your kids certain values like not taking things for granted such as an awesomely refreshed Z by his father and the value in doing something yourself ;)

Can't wait to see the painting stage and also what else you have in store for this revived Z....also top marks for the proactive approach, you definitely don't stuff around

    Cheers!

Looking good Kingy, One question though. What do you do if you ever want to take the front fenders off now that you have moulded the skirts to them..

My rallycar has 1.6mm STEEL skirts that I pressed up at work (additional rigidity chassis wise )..... I damaged a guard 4 years ago, gross knots, sideways, patch of heavy sand on the 'pole line', tree stump ... doo doo's happened
Simply ran the 9" grinder through the join to seperate the guard from the sill.... replaced the guard and added on a new bit for the skirt to it aswell... then plated the exposed ends up so mud / dirt etc couldnt get into the cavitys.

I guess the exact same principle could be applied here except I'd use fibreglass end plates.

I had the exact same issue when I did my skirts on BADZX and almost cut the skirt prior the priming stage so I could remove the guard if needed.....
The thoughts then were I'll worry about it if & when I need to remove the guard .... after all ... how often do we need to remove guard except to repair it from accident damage (in which case the skirts will probably need replacing anyway)

I did think this time around about removal of all that stuff under the wheel arch covers and the bits under the guard aswell that are related to the exhaust thingy, but I want to keep the basics as original as posiable, reason being ...
undoutably he'll get pulled up ;), the finished car WILL attract intrest from the constabulary, color & paint job, body kit, front clip with "intercoolers";), and a set of wheels to tie it all together, a sweet burble comming out the zorst..... and a new set of P plates ....
    Bad combination ..... perhaps
no-doubt the car will get a good going over, better off leaving it as close to stock as posiable mechanicly wise for the time being.... also saves me a fortune... he can buy his own go-faster bits when HE can afford them
    :D

ok.... too hot today to do anything on the ZX...... so I attacked the troopy and made up the new bullbar instead.....
    :bash:

    but yesterday...... :D

    I primed

    Taken last night around 9:30pm.....

and today Stephen put the car in the "oven" to cook the primer real good .....

    dont laugh
it was 44 degrees here today and the car spent the entire day outside in the heat and the sun..... the primer is well n truely baked on and there's no doubt in my mind that the bodyfiller and urthane are now fully hardened & set.

    3 extra shots....
I've posted these seperately as they are good clean pics and show the final finish of the priming stage

these also show the excelent clean lines I acheived...... and thats where the time spent in doing the good ground work comes into its own. ;)

yeah I spent hours doing all the joins etc, but I also spent more time making the joins as good as I posiably could ..... way more time than most would spend on fitting a bodykit but in the longrun its time extreamly well spent.

    bragging time :p

The car will now "rest" for a couple of weeks to give it all time to settle in, and whilst I have the black paint allready, the other color hasnt as yet arrived due to a delay along the line..... might be a couple of weeks was the call I got on Saturday
    :(

    In the meantime...
I'll tackle the alloy under tray,
    change the zorst system,
hook up the engine oil cooler,
    &
I might even change the Bomex front clip a tad.....
making it a one off, & adding is some strength in a way most wouldnt have ever seen
    ;)

relax...... I'll keep the pics comming if you want

    Nothing much "visually" has changed......

new rear mufflers that are emmitting a very sweet note :D

Rims are at the powder coaters....... black to match the bonnet
( rims are the "Euro Concept style" ....... )
& came from the forum, sadly the painted 'chrome finish' had been wiped back so harshly that the yellow undercoat was showing through in patches on the rear rims....... strangely the fronts are actually chrome

The fronts have been to the sand blasters to remove the chrome and the rears had a light sand back and are ready for paint. The rears ( +38 offset) have hit the big lathe and I've removed around 8mm from the WMS ( Wheel Mounting Surface), this will bring the rims in closer to the diff and allow for some larger rubber at a future date to be hung under the car ( 275x45x17)
    :D

( sorry, couldnt find the link in the archives for these rims...... dont know how to search the archives or if its even posiable to do !! )
    :(

I'll see if I can find the link.
