New hatch prepared, all spoiler holes filled, rust repaired, primed and (so far) painted in the base coat. No clear on it until the morning. Bonnet base coat not quite dry yet so looks patchy, this will all go away as it dries properly. I may get all cunning and actually fit these parts to the car then clear coat them. That way they are out of the way for other parts to get prepared & painted
nicee mate, I hope you welded the holes up in the hatch coz bog always seems to crack through the paint after a few months.
Dimpled the holes far enough so it wont be an issue. Have only got a gas set at the moment so wasn't keen to destroy it with that LOL!
dam this is a very nice thread. u better drive past that same dealer when u finish it and ask him how much he would buy it for. and then remind him its the same car he sold you for $500
Hahahah...that would be brilliant...please do that!!! lol Gret progress, can't wait to see the finished thing
Starting to look like a nice Z Obviously days worth of work to go still but at least it looks like a car again.
Ahh man thats just such a great job. Happy to see a rags to riches kinda Z. Excellent work. Whos in on a Group Buy to get this guy over to do some work. haha!
HA HA!! thanks guys but if you had a look at it in the flesh you would see why a booth is so important with this sort of thing. I painted my first car (VW Beetle baja) when I was about 18 maybe 17? I've painted a couple of aeroplanes & a heap of components for planes, repairs on planes, cars, motor bikes, a camper van probably some other things I can't remember... It's a bit of hit n miss when painting in the garage, all you need is a gust of wind (even with the doors closed) the draft can stir up dust etc & spoil an otherwise perfect job. Colour choice can help hide things but unfortunately this colour doesn't hide much. The next job I do I am going to get it in a booth for the clear coat etc - then I'm sure I can get it so close to perfect I will be happy
I tend to agree, home jobs are always known for being home jobs. As mentioned it doesnt take much to spoil hours of prep work and a good flow from the gun. I painted my dato in Devil Yellow at home. Another colour that isnt forgiving for hiding mistakes and dust. But to be able to bring something back to life, even if it isnt a pro paint job. Its the absolute pleasure and achievement to know its your work. Anyways, love the colour, really is an excellent rejuvenation of the old girl. Ill crack a beer in your honor! Till the next update
Its the little stuff like this that seems to take forever and can hold the project up big time: Pure Z pornography right here: mmmmmm beautiful bumps....
Looks fantastic mungyz. What are the headlights like? They look a bit cloudy/dirty in the pics. Are you going to open them up and give them a clean?
