    Hello everyone,
Im not sure if this is the right place to put this thread,

I am a new member just signed up, I just picked up a TT Z32,
I don't know the year model as it doesn't seem to have a build plate on it,
(if anyone has any advice on where it might be, or how I could find out another way, it would be very much appreciated)

Anyways, I picked it up for $800, so its a bit rough but still not bad for what it is. Yes its got smash damage on the quarter panel, it doesn't look major though, apparently some dude drove it and hit a parked car then a pole then a starpicket. In that order.

Here it is on the back of the truck when I got it home,
    [IMG]

And as it sat when i finally got it off the truck. (Mind the messy yard) LOL

    The Powerplant.

    The Quarter panel damage.

Check out how much bog someone tried to hide it with. Amazing!!

And it looks like they have bogged straight over the paint. Without taking it to metal.

Anyways, i was at this point considering just parting it out since i got it for so cheap, but then, i thought, ive never driven a Z and my GF was keen on getting it fixed,

Apart from the body, i am only in need of minor parts such as Fan shroud and a few interior bits that are missing, among with random things like the front bar lip and foglights missing and the side indicators,

Whilst im in here, I wanna give a big shout out to forum member Pennyarvs, He hooked me up with an awesome deal for some of my interior pieces. Thank you very much Pennyarv.Your help is much appreciated.

So anyways why not give it a go at fixing her....

(By the way I am Not a panelbeater, I am a complete novice at bodywork stuff, although I have tackled some paint jobs before I haven't got much experience with it a all. Im just giving my best shot.

All grinded back to metal so i can assess the damage properly

    Straightened out a bit
    [IMG]

    Moving along slowly

At this point I found a cheap quarter panel on ebay, I figured it wasn't that urgent to get it shipped from QLD, so he said he would deliver it himself, What a nice guy he was, The thing is though he said he wasn't coming to NSW until October to watch the Bathurst Race. So until then I will be continuing the way I am.

So with that done Im no file finisher so i though it would be ready for a bit of Bog.

    First Layer On

    Next Bit

Looking better, but damn sanding sux!!

Finally feel like im getting somewhere.

In Primer Ready to be block sanded AGAIN. NOOO :(

That is as far as i am up to at the moment. I will update it as i finish the job.

Great to see your zed (or hers?!) in photos. Looking forward to bringing her back on the road and to finally see her in flesh.

    Well done, dude...

my first thought is the car has no plates, so has it been written off, if it has there is a process to get it back on the road this includes a certified agent witnessing and photographing various stages of the repair. Also some states have removed the repairable writeoff class as well. (a note to those who have more serious accidents may soon be better to not put our cars through insurance if we want to keep them). If the car has been written off it may be better to part out - keeping any parts you like the look of. If you do part it out it is possible to get close to enough to get another project Z. or the other option is get a licensed Z that you can repair with parts from this one then part out the remainder. If however the license on this has merely lapsed or been handed in then its a trip over the pits with the associated pitfalls that come with that. None of what I have to say is good I suppose but on the up side you look like you are having fun with what you are doing and its a great way to get to know your Z.

    BTW welcome to the forums.

Fairly sure in NSW you can't repair a write off anymore. If that cars written off mate theres no point in fixing it. If you do decide to part it out PM me and we can work out a deal on that engine.

of course if you want a track car or a skid car that you trailer to events it could be a great start. And I also want to say that while I have been negative I really applaud you for getting into the job. I am just worried it may not be the right car to start with.

what condition is the engine in? I say keep it after all the work that's been done. So long as it's not written off... but it all depends if the motor's in as good condition as the body.

Good job man, bringing a car back from the dead.

But definitely check to see if it's a write off as you can't re rego a write of now in NSW

Thanks for the advice everyone, I am pretty sure it's ok, I paid for a Revs check and it seems to be fine through them. Or is there something I am missing here?

Is a Revs check enough to say its not a write off?

    Keep it man,
I got my zed, an old flacked out POS that was only good for scrap from an individual i wont name,

If i was smart, i would have got one in better nic, but as time went on, and many hours spent, you kind of get attached, haha and dont want to let it go.

However Im bringing her back to life... Every Zed deserves a second chance.

    Keep at it mate.

On another note,,, how did you manage to get it onto the truck??

Oh and the engine seems as only done 160 000k if that's a good thing?

I compression tested it and it seemed pretty consistent. All cylinders were about 150psi give or take a few.

From what I've read that seems to be ok?

When I first got it the dude had 2 stroke in it, god knows why, it was missing so bad I though it had a blown head gasket, turned out when I pulled the plugs out, they were so fouled it wasn't funny and they stunk like a chainsaw. Lol

I put some premium in and she was all good.

LOL, that would've been my old man you were talking to about the quarter panel on ebay.

When you say it's missing plates what plates are you talking about exactly? I'm assuming it has an Australian vin since you were able to do a revs check? Note that not all zeds imported in to the country had a green compliance plate attached.

Either way, looks like you've got a fair project there. I'd also be checking for damage to the suspension and subframe on that wheel if it's taken a fair hit like that.

Lol, I knew someone was going to ask about getting onto truck.

The truck is a tipper, and I use my bobcat ramps with sme extra long timbers and tip the truck up till they are almost flat with the tray,

Then I drove slowly up onto the ramps, enough to get my wheels, then hooked up block and tackle and pulled it up the rest of the way.

Getting it off was the same.

A few people that were there when I picked it up had a chuckle thinking It wasn't going to fit but they soon started being real quiet towards the end.

I knew it would fit, I had my mk2 supra on the truck in the past as well when it needed to get to the exhaust shop unregistered.

Suspension seems ok, it actually looks amazingly clean under there,

although apparently the hicas bar was replaced, but that was before I had it. Nothing's seems bent though, and all body lines aren't too bad so it doesn't seem to be structural damage from what I can tell.

    Lol, what a small world.

It's missing a build date plate, every car I've ever owned has had one so its weird this car doesn't.

What is an Australian vin, how do I tell the difference?

Jap imports don't have a build date stamped on them as I believe that's an aus requirement or something. Usually they will have the build date stamped on to the import plate, but like I said not all cars have an import plate depending on how and when they came in to the country. That said, you can decipher the build date from the (japanese) vin number.

The car should at the very least have 2 different vin's. A shorter (japanese) one stamped on the top of the firewall, and a longer (australian) one that is often either stamped in to the body or attached on a metal plate.

    Welcome to our insanity.
As the other guys have said do your check through the RTA to make sure it can be registered.
You'll need to get the exhaust changed back to std to get it past blue slip. Those cannons won't pass.

For a "novice" in the panel beating dept, your doing fine and all looks good.
    Keep up the good work.
Just do your RTA homework first.

Ok, I just rang the RTA to double check and the RTA said it was OK. Theres no listing under the write off title, so i guess im good to continue what im doing.
