What's with the rusted bonnet trend, any idea where that came from, or what it is supposed to signify?
Saw a 180sx the other day that looked to be kitted out with some expensive gear, only to have this crappy looking bonnet. I don't understand what the purpose of that is.

i think its another single part of a modifying scene that when its taken on its own it doesnt make sense. From what i ve seen it started with rat rodders
    [IMG]

then i saw a few early golfs and stuff done rat rod style

but on newer cars with just the bonnet done it looks stupid

maybe corroded alluminium will be a new trend. paint stripper and hydrocloric acid should work. :p

enlighten me as to how navan racks are usdm?
.... and have a "rat rod" oxidised alloy bonnet from a polishing project that went horribly wrong. Something I dont recommend.

When did i say roof racks were JDM? and for the record (im sure Michael agrees) roof racks on a zed are wicked! A very cool bit of kit. Not something i would have on for a photoshoot but its a practical and "cool" novelty.

    rusted bonnet no thanks...

    orange rims yes please.

Just because you wouldnt do it to your car or understand the desire behind it, it doesnt mean you cant appreciate the look or the uniqueness of certain things.

This is what i dont like about this forum. All the purists with your persecuting ways, hating on everything that is even slightly different. Guys like theo and Rod have got the idea and dont care what you think. I plan on slamming mine to within an inch of its life as well as rolling/pumping my guards. But i do also want a later model zed in pure form at some stage. I envy CARZ and his immaculate '95 and '97 :zlove:

why did you ad that picture to a thread titled JDM then? what annoys me is not what is done to the car, but the misuse of the term. And no i dont appreciate roof racks at all as a style thing. If you use them , great, then take them off for a photoshoot.

what im talking about is not the racks themselves but how it is now cool to take photos of your car with the roof racks on like you are part of some elite club.

Im glad that you have used Rod as an example because he might not be a zed purist but he is an elitist , he knows what he likes and he sticks to it, he would say my wheels are sunken in, id say they fit right, but both of us can take other peoples opinions without getting too defensive.

Its not about being slightly different, Ive done lots of things to my zed that make it completely unique. I like to be different, there isnt another zed in australia with the same front bumper as mine, and maybe only one other with the same wheels.

You posted that pic saying just for the haters, surely you expected some negative responses.

arrr man. Each to their own. I love the racks and i dont mind a good pic like that with them on. But i like no racks too of course!

I made the thread and sprayed my stockies orange for skid pan days or whenever i might need them. This zed has orange rims, looks awesome and thought i would share. I cant be assed debating JDM styling. :br::zlove:

not a soccer mum, but going for the novelty factor of having Navan racks, a Japanese product, and factory option for the z32. Still struggling to understand how its a US thing? Please bare in mind I'm just a dumb sparky

Some would say that there are a lot better rear wings available than the navan.... a lot better shifters than the Navan..... that genuine Altia sills, 1/4 shades and garnish are overpriced....... the factory 10-stacker is shit in comparison to todays car audio standards

Perhaps my interpretation of "JDM" is wrong. I had believed it to be parts as manufactured and available from Japan, but am always open to re-education :)

It came to a grinding halt (intentional pun) when I got too impatient with using paint stripper and opted for a flapper disc on a 5"

Patience is a virtue I'm yet to develop

It was a Minties Moment when I showed it to my polisher friend.

The US bit is people like the guy inthe pic painting his wheels adn taking pics with roof racks on, he's doing it for interent points not because he likes teh genuine factory options, thats where you differ from the people going for a JDM look.

How is painting your rims only for internet points? i love the orange on white look. Others do too no doubt. And its only 1 picture...i dont see a whole shoot of roof racks, that would be over the top.

What about ben towing a truck with his zed? im sure you liked that and there was heaps of photos of it. Its unique, interesting and cool. Your just a hater of what some people call "JDM".

speaking of roof racks, does anyone use them. I wouldn't mind some for my downhill mountain bike since my zed is a daily.

I understand what it means. Do you?

Anything from the Japanese Domestic Market is JDM. The neo-JDM scene is more like this http://www.jdmstyletuning.com/. Japanese inspired styling. I painted stockies orange and your up in arms. Back the **** off yea?
