According to the Mech it seems the front Crankshaft seal may be leaking. not confirmed at this time ?

what else could it be with oil leaking slightly from front of engine area ?

I have had Rollin do the plenum PCV's Rickers etc recently I would not expect anything there to be the problem.

My question if it is the Crank seal, Is it a big job to get replaced? I'm hoping its not going to be required to access the timing covers (newb question from old member)?
anyone got a guesstimate on time / labour please?

PITA job if its the first time. Crank sprocket usually has to be drilled and then split with a cold chisel.
Timing belt has to come off.

Would be checking that its not the intake sprockets leaking, oil running down front of motor and out at crank area. Also a timing covers off job.

Crankshaft oil seal = crank pulley and crank sprocket off. Which would typically radiator and fan off, drive belts, crank pulley and crank sprocket. You might think you can do it without removing timing covers but you need to relieve timing belt tension, and your cam sprockets are going to shift, so covers need to be off for all that.

So in a nut shell. Full 100k service worth of labour. I'd just do the full service again. Looks like someone bipassed the crank seal the last time.

Yep, bastard of a job. I've never seen a leaking crank seal, cam seals on the other hand...

Damn, I'll have to wait for the autopsy from the Mechanic to confirm the problem!

I had Fleet do the 'full' timing belt maintenance at 185K -
pretty sure all seals were done along with tentioners water pump - the full monty - but not sure specifically on the Crank seal?
it was done just before he had to fold and its now on 207K - so not too many K's later.

Thanks for the info though, one and all.

    Update - Oil 'leak'

Just picked up the car and the Mech said He cleaned the underneath of the engine down (as the rocker cover was leaking / seeping for a year or so prior to Rollin doing the under plennum maintenance) which of course was all fixed by Rollin (great job too - highly recommend his work to all Zeders in Brissie)
tightented up the sump bolts a bit and left on the hoist overnight and no more oil drips or leaks.

    I'm stoked to the max.

So this means to get the RWC / safety certificate all I had to get was 4 x Brake / stop Globes in RED because the LEDS I had put into the 'Cleared Tail lights' were causing a 'Lights' warning to go on in the dash (and an underbody engine clean).

This car never ceases to amaze me .. maybe I won't sell it after all .. ( shameless plug = 12K in for sale section for clubbers)
