with the stock tension rods? I have recently bought some and i am concerned with what i have been reading about not using solid tension rods with them. I have replaced bushings with poly bushings but want to know if anyone else has done this. Skooba.
A number of owners have chosen not to use Adjustable Tension Rods in conjunction with Adjustable Upper Control Arms. The only "downside" to this is that you lose some of the advantages of being able to fine tune your front suspension geometry. If you're concerned about the Rose-jointed(solid) Adjustable Tension Rods, why not try the Bushed Adjustable Tension Rods currently on sale at UAS? They should be an excellent compromise.
For normal street use I don't think you will have a problem. It also depends on the quality off the arms themselves. Track use would be a different stroy, heavy braking hard corning ect would warrent the use of solid r/j rods, but like chili said a good compromise would be the uas product.
I was never concerned about the tension rods. Was concerned about flogging out the bearings or bending the camber arms if stock tension rods were used. Skooba
Am currently running that exact setup, but its too early to tell as the Zed has only done a 2,000km round trip to Cowra since fitting the new arms and bushes.
well with the solid pillowball tension rods the rest of the system cops a beating going over bumps. it's a lot harsher and a pothole deep enough (only ever hit one deep enough) gave a really nasty noise where as the bushed ones would have absorbed the impact. personally i don't think there is any problem going with the camber arms without the tension rods but since i already bought them might as well put em in. keep in mind you will gain caster adjustments and even at stock lengths the turn in is very sharp and direct. my turn in has actually become a little too sensitive and i've had to adjust my driving to suit. they do make a noticeable difference.
what sort of tension rods are you using? And hard immediate and precise is your steering? I'm currently running kyb agx shocks, eibach pro kit springs, whiteline sway bars (currently set at medium up front, also have adjustable links coming) and it doesn't quite feel as direct as i would have liked. Still much better though, and i need a wheel alignment especially on the rears
i'm running tuneagent ones. the car goes where you point it with no delay. obviously the swaybars are also doing their part in cornering but tension rods are worth doing IMO. however it's not essential as the camber arms are bloody strong and the bending issues could very well be incorrectly installed arms that fouled on the bracket.
where'd you pick them up from and for how much? I'm not using after market camber arms, but the eibach springs had a .8 drop so i used the 300degree camber compensation spacers that Coz sells. After all the talk of reliability issues with AM camber arms, i decided the spacers were probably the best idea as they suit my application
got em from fleet in jan when he had tuneagent gear on special. i think was around $160ish. actually i wasn't going to do camber arms either but the discounted price on tuneagent arms was roughly equal to the PZP GB so i ended up getting them too.
