    Hey all,

First I'd apologise for not making on the cruise today. Car developed a rattling noise coming from underneath yesterday and I was afraid of any damage so today I took it to a mates house to diagnose. Turns out its the left cat thats rattling. Tossing up whether to replace or gut . What is everyone's thoughts on this? Its not often you get emmisions tested and its a hell of a lot cheaper. Has anyone got this set up atm?

    Thanks ppl

P.S. I hope the cruise went well and I wish I could have made it. I was really looking forward to it. :(

I was faced with this scenario not long ago.....

as my CATS were also rattling. In the end, the EPA scare stories scared me so I got new cats and dumped the gutting idea. If you want something a little cheaper speak to Egg. He bought in some funky CATS from the US, and the only reason why I didnt get them was because I wasnt sure how'd they go with emmisions tests. He may have had that analysed by now so speak with him. They were practically half the price of CATs you could get here.

    Cheers

EPA scare stories?? What sort of penalty is carried with failing emmisions testing?

Also, if I have to replace CATS (still deciding), how much is a good price locally for Hi-Flows? I couldn't seem to find them on TTZ site .

    Cheers

    EPA...

In Vic, the penalty for being caught with gutted cats or no cats is $10K. Of course, I'm not sure how they could determine that you have gutted cats while pulled over on the side of the road, but I have been told its easy for them to test. Is it crap??? dont know, maybe, but I know of at least 2 people on the skyline forum who got a $4000 dollar fine for mucking around with their cats. As for local high flows, I would put aside about $500 for a pair of 2.5inch hiflows. 3 inch would be more.

    Cheers

Dont gut or get rid of the cats

I'm not a greenie but consider this

Your exhaust emissions hang around for around 100 years. The emmisions from the first car firing up is probably still hanging around!!

Anything that reduces them is a good thing. (Also healthier to you and those you drive past).

I have also heard of phenominal fines for gutted or no cats here as well.

Agreed, unleaded fuel is nasty stuff....

...and you dont want to be breathing in the unburnt vapours coming from your exhaust
