Well dont bother. Got quoted $5000 just for labour today. WORST news ive ever heard by far! The engine harness may have to be changed and also some wiring/looms under the dash may have to be replaced just as a start. Auto to manual is alot cheaper BTW just incase i scared anyone away from conversions! Gavin wood is your friend! It was my fault for having my hopes up , should have done some more research. Oh well its not the end of the world. Does this mean now i can still go drifting with fate? :zlove: See yas Matt
ouch!! That labour price is a bit rich, i had the same conversion done for $500 labour by a guy in logan and did a top job haven't had a problem with it, my cruise control still even works. I can give u his no. if you want to go give it a go.
Crossed wires.... Manual to Auto conversion exxy. Auto to Manual easy. Unless yr Zed was originally an auto & all wiring still in place. What's yr VIN number Matt?
That doesn't look like a VIN number......>> What does it say on the Nissan plate? not the compliance plate.
Ok... yr Zed was always a Manual from birth... ... therefore it would require full Auto loom to convert from Manual. An auto loom/ATCU is required - lotsa hrs involved U candu most yrself, but first source an Auto to take the HP...???
just a question.... and this is not a stab at auto zed owners, but why do you want to convert from manual to auto??? usually its the other way around... just curious Cheers
BOXSTOP advised that they are pretty good gearboxes and can handle a fair bit of hp. i asked about strengthing the box while it was out being rebuilt and he said there are a only few weaknesses in them box nothing major and not really worth strengthing, and that a shift kit will be fine. So is it a job that i could do rob? So Rob do you have many hours to spair??? BTW i got quoted $1350 for a full auto rebuild on the bench and $280 for a stage 2 shift kit!!!! Matt. :zlove:
I believe autos peform better easier to drive, never loose boost with turbo motor changing gears.. Can stall up off the line building boost. better traction off the line aswell. I think its more a driving style thing, i know heaps of people that would much rather drive a manual, but not me! Matt.
I can't comment re BOXSTOP, however ... A stock Z32 auto will need major surgery to handle yr HP. A standard re-build is normally $2k to $2.5k. Contact Rodney @ www.automatictransmission.com.au for advice.
I understand... My opinion is that auto's are much better at launching and drag racing in general. Cheers
Question!!! I have heard that when running alot of power it is better to have a strong auto box rather then a manuel. is there any truth in this?
agree with rob, no way stock box will handle your power MV in SA make a controller to bypass the nissan electronics side of things. So should end up cutting down a lot of the costs, not sure about the downsides. i'd say good 2k for perfomrance build, you always have the option of running a ford or holden box.
oops I got the conversion the wrong way around sorry dude i thought auto to manual silly me, That is an unusual conversion manual to auto, yeah I'm sure that wouldn't be cheap.. Good luck
