I don't know who would insure their car for so little but I am looking up online quotes for insurance and just car offered 3,500, and RAC offered to insure for 4800. I doubt there are many zeds that are worth this little, I know for a fact that although mine is nothing special I could sell it for 8k without too much difficulty. So my question is, who are people insured with and how much for? did you have to argue with someone on the phone to get covered for the proper amount? (or just point them to carsales where they can blatantly not find decent zeds going that cheap).
your car is a NA 4 seater , what gearbox? sadly, the amounts your being offered are proby fairly on the ball, maybe 1-1.5k short
Manual gearbox, the difference between my car and the NAs worth that much is mine is more mechanicly reliable than half my friends brand new cars (only mechanical problem ive ever had was a water pipe bursting). Also the value of a car = what it could be reasonably sold for in a short period of time. I have had offers for my car for 8k and I am not even selling it. Shit thing is I know a guy who bought a mk2 supra NA in shit mechanical condition for 9k, and it got insured for 16k easy as... totalled it a few weeks after getting it insured im certain it was on purpose lol.
i know its a little different but i'm only third party fire and theft with racv, they cover market value up to 10,000 including extras and accessories. the book on the z's should still be at around 10k max for an na even. but i've got a log book of every penny i've spent (currently at 11,600$) so hopefully that will help if anything does go south. shannons wouldnt insure my car for anything when i checked them. and a few other companies werent too happy to go near it either. too many youngens going out and writing these things off while complaining about poor traction and not enough power. not to mention they are pretty high on the most stolen car's list. but in a few years time they will be over 25 years old and in a new field for car enthusiasts. pretty sure 25 years is the beginning of the 'classics' catagory, so anyone who does still own one should be seen as a true 'enthusiast' not just a rev head looking for a cheap version of a Lamborghini.
Shannons was going to be my next phone call, was gonna insure it for the first time ever after my 25th birthday because prices wouldn't be retarded... looks like it just stays uninsured (I am aware some people are against not even having third party, but I am quiet capable and happy to take out a personal loan to cover the extremely unlikely case that I have an accident that I am at fault for) insurance companies seem to not be worth my time. And the fact that they are so commonly stolen tbh was the whole reason I was considering insurance. I consider the likelyhood of having an accident very low, the other reason is worry about hail damage etc after the storm here last night.
if your really worried about it being stolen, there are things you can do that mean anyone who jumps in the car if your not there would need to maybe.,, install a few things back under the hood before tweaking a few wires together would get them anywhere... just sayin...
Who's that through? Obviously an NA won't be insured for as much nor would i expect it to be (trying to get insured for about 9k)
I found Shannons very easy to deal with over the phone. Detailed the modifications to the car, and they asked how much I wanted it insured for. Agreed value of $15,000 and premium less than $500 per year. (I am an over 50's old fart). Their paperwork turned up a few days later with all the mods listed on the policy.
Im insured for 15gz if i remember correctly...full comprehensive with just car insurance for my 92 NA Manual zed Abraham
how??? I tried to get them to insure my TT when I first bought it and the guy told me that the "market" value that he had listed for the car was only 5g, and I listed the mods and everything and they told me that they could only insure it for 8, which I thought was rather unreasonable due to the fact that i just paid 11 for the car and I explained that to the guy and he didnt want to do anything for me.
With most Insurers, your age and driving history and the age of other drivers you'll allow to drive the car, plays a big part. Even tho you are an adult, insurers do not consider you Mature enough until you hit 30+. So when you ask about insurance they go " Ohhh Ooooo crazy young dude wants to trash and crash " so they mark your car down in Value in the hope you'll sell it and get a " sensible " car. Good trick i learnt years ago, was ring around and quote your Dad's or Mum's details and watch the difference in Value and Price .
17k for my 1997 NA Auto, though AAMI. Although it's under my dads name, I'm still covered in the event of an accident, but the excess is higher (2k)
They offered me an agreed value of $16k. But that was with a list of mods about a mile long Premium was about $1200, I'm 25 and no claims in the last 5 years.
I never got an agreed value, I just told them the mods, they asked how much each one was, and they added the price to the value... Not sure what thats called?
Ok I'm going to pipe up here, because if I read this correctly you're driving around with NO insurance at all, not even 3rd party property damage? I'm sorry but that is just ****ing stupid. Lemme guess, hit someone and just do a runner eh? I don't know why property damage isn't compulsory over here like in other countries. Nobody has an excuse not to be driving around without it though. It costs me less than $400 a year (19, no at fault accidents) to insure my 300 for 3rd party property damage, fire and thieft for an agreed value of 10-12k. And only $70 a year for 3rd party property damage on my 10 year old falcon. If you can't afford that then you probably can't afford to own or run a 300 let alone any car. /rant
