I'm installing my ZEAL coilovers currently... and I've done one side. However I can't get my KYB AGX shock off on the other side cause it hits my fat swaybar. What's the easiest way to get some clearance here? Can I unbolt my tension rod or do I have to take off my swaybar?

Also is this some kind of mount I'm supposed to re-use? I just bolted up the coilover without it.

car has to be level, ie you cannot do one corner at a time as it torques the swaybar.

As for the metal shims, they are only for the stock front coils. Stops the metal rod poking thru the bonnet when the springs compress. Coilovers do not use that shim.

    Dude, just drop your swaybar.

Yeah the car is on stands so it's level...

Ok then I'll get under and drop the swaybar... which means I'll need to spend some time clearing out the garage first so I can get some space to crawl under there:lame:

Keep your garage clean! Makes things so much easier! I've been extra well behaved with the last lot of work on the zed I've been doing. Put tools back after using them, not leaving bolts everywhere and I'm getting stuff done twice as quick as I'm not looking everywhere for the 4 12m spanners that I've lost

And you can just undo the two end link bolts and let the swaybar hang down from the main mounts. More than enough room ;)

You got your engine mounts and all that done yet? If not take the swaybar off and put it away :p

It is clean........sort of :p It's just that my garage is really small and I have to share it with my dad... and I have to cram 2 engines, a gearbox and an engine crane in there among other things. I can't even close the garage door fully lol.

Yeah I did unbolt both the endlinks, but it's not even budging so I'll take it off completely since it'll hit the A/C anyway...

I've got some stick welded ally mounts from the other Chris, just need to get the motor back in there and drill a hole... then get the real ones made up. Then Kermit will be making my headers :D

After I finish my exams on the 13th I'll be free to get this thing running!:zlove:

you need to drop the swaybar mounts to take off the tension rods anyway. just undo the swaybar.

also those spacer things are for stock. chuck em in the bin.

btw are those new zeals? which model?

Don't chuck them if you plan on re-selling or reinstalling the stockies at a later date though...

I'll keep the shims, pits might not like the coilovers anyway. They're ZEAL Function-Xs monotube dampers with 10k/7k spring rates. Bought on Yahoo Japan used for 15,000kms, $750 :D

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

Is there much diff between stock and aftermarket???

I just changed mine on the weekend (KYB GR_2/Kings Lows) and I just pushed the shock off the bottom mount stud, dropped it down a bit and then pulled the top of the shock forward while holding the brake lne out of the way. They just fell out??????

In the past I've just put the foot on the hub to pull the LCA down, and the shock slides out. Top out first, then slide down into the lower camber arm, then out towards yourself.
A lever and a mate helps too.
