I need a new infill panel. But they're pricey and fragile. Has anyone got any tips for installing them? I've been putting it off for more than a year now. I'm just scared of finally cashing up only to break it. I heard one story of a panel beater who broke 3 trying to install them :\ Thankfully, my grossly faded one is pretty much just the color of my paint
They're only hard if you're fitting them to a hatch that originally had a wing fitted and may have had the mounting points damaged upon removal. I've fitted a few and they're not too bad. Just take your time and make sure you only press on the sections that the clips are located at. When you look at one off the car you can see the 2 weak spots where the plastic reenforcing at the rear doesn't quite cover.
I see. Mine should be a simple swap with the old one. And I'll have a good look at the old one when I take it off. I guess I can do a test fit with the old one, though I'm sort of expecting it to just snap after 19 years.
If you have all of the mounting holes already set up and you are very careful when your installing it it wont break. I would suggest the more people hold the panel at once would help and like ryzan said only push on the sections where the clips are located.
