injector wiring switched over?

    Hi all,
    Just replaced a couple of my remaining old injector connectors after a plenum pull and i have a non-firing cylinder :(
    I have some concern that i may have swaped the wires left to right on the connectors, which may be causing the problem. when i removed the old injector connectors i did so without leaving any trace of he wires in the old connectors thus i can no longer tell if i have put the right wire on the right side or not (i.e. should the yellow/green wire be on the left or right side of the connector?)
    Does anyone have a list of the wiring colours and where each colour goes??

    It should work regardless.

    I'd be trying to isolate the problem, so fuel, spark or compression on that cylinder. Could be something unrelated like a dirty PTU connection.

    As Chrispy said, doesnt matter which way the 2 wires are orientated on each injector as they are just solenoids that aren't polarity dependant. BUT ensure the wiring plug is firmly seated on the injector.

    Some of the new style quick release connectors don't click home firmly enough without a good tap. injector wiring colours here.

    You can test if the injector is working by placing a long screwdriver tip onto the injector and the ear against the handle. Listen for the click. You may need to do this on a couple injectors to work out what is the injector sound compared to all the other engine noises.

    really!? are you sure? why would it work either way? doesn't make sense to me.
    I've tried isolating it. so far i have tested compression and spark on all the cylinders and they are all ok. only thing i can think of now is fuel delivery, but not sure how to test that cylinder by cylinder. engine revs change momentaily after removing any of the injector plugs... i think...

    ok thanks guys! i will go out now and do the screw driver thing and think i might also try shaving the lugs off those injectors to make the new style connectors fit properly. not sure of best way to do the shaving?... thinking a small sharp chisel?

    its like a light bulb doesnt matter what way you send power to it as long as it gets the power needed its going to work.

    The ECU will try to compensate for the loss of a cylinder so sometimes the rpm drop is only momentary.

    Although electrics are supposed to be 100% on or 100% off, you can at times have a partially good connection between injector plug and injector. Bright, new injector plugs mean squat if the injector terminals are still dirty. I assume you cleaned up the injector terminals also on the suspect cylinder? Just because they look 'clean' means nothing. You have to 'hurt' the surface (carefully) with a small file to ensure you gave a good bare metal contact. Then FIRMLY reconnect and ensure the plug is fully seated down on the injector. My money is on an injector plug that looks like its on, but is sitting up proud somewhat.

    PS: Did you use the new style wiring plugs Ifso, try turning the wiring plug around on the injector. Nissan added a 'proprietary' raised offset section on on side of the injector terminal to force you to use genuine nissan wiring plugs. A quick slice with a knife (or just turning the wiring plug around gets around that. And to confirm. the injector is not polarity dependant. Doesn't matter which terminals have 12+ or earth.

    yep, whatever works, just be gentle. I use a stanley knife but a chisel works- don't go down too far or you could take a chunk out of the injector

    Thanks heaps for this! i will do as you say ;)
    I have tryed cleaning the injector terminals with contact cleaner and scratching with a screw driver but can't seem to get all of the green/white corrosion off. will try the sand paper on screwdriver thing some more as well as making sure the plugs seat properly. and yess they are the non-genuine plugs so i will need to do some mods here.

    Supercheap have a little needlenose filing kit which as a flat blade file that is perfect for this. Only $5 or so.

    Much neater and cleaner than sandpaper etc.

    Be really careful though as the injector wiring plugs can bend really easy. They can be repositioned back to centre once or twice OK, but could break under heavy attack :)

    Don't forget to blow the injector plug area out afterward to remove the green crap etc.
