Can anyone tell me what the legal requirements are for indicators are? I'm thinking about removing the side front indicators and going with something like the Twin Z flush mounts but not sure what the legal requirements are. Also is there any problem with removing the red rear side reflectors mounted in the rear bar?
Basically need to have indicators clearly visible in a full 360 sweep around the car so flush is probably ok so long as your fronts are mounted towards the sides a bit. There's a minimum rear reflective area so reducing the rear reflectors is probably a bad idea although off the top of my head I'm not sure what the area is. It varies from state-to-state but that's the general gist.
Looks like Aus spec don't have those rear side reflectors anyway, just the big ugly square ones in the rear of the bumper.
yeah im removing my guard indicators aswell... i have the indicators on the front bar on the side. many new cars dont have guard indicators with the indicators sitting on the side front bar but i dont know if the regulations changed for these new cars only... eh if i get caught ill just drill a small hole and put the smallest indicator i can find at the bottom part of the guard
Put your side indicators on your mirrors Best solution by a clear mile These are skins that fit over your OEM mirrors, available on yahoo
The only law that relates to your question that I can think of: Is that the indicator light must be in the same location as per the original stock location. (however you interpret that is another question) I think this is a new federal standards law, (meaning it is the law in all states in oz) JC :zlove:
The general rule is that the Indicator/Trafficator must be clearly visible throughout a 45degree arc from the straight ahead position(AND it MUST be the correct/original colour).
Thanks for the attachment Gra(however, the veritable minefield of unresponsive pages that ensued from attempting to access ANY information from said document has led me to retreat to my original suggested requirements). Cheers Mate. Lloyd:zlove::zlove:
Heaven forbid the average joe has access to documentation that gives details on what we can and can not do to our Hoon mobiles
Ditto......haha........... I'm am sure it says no ....no .....no.........and ......no........ throughout the entire document - unless you get it approved  True - have to justify spawning a whole new inspection industry here (and the wages to match). The legal industry alone, makes a living off just arguing on the interpretation of this crap and is often the reason why you need to often refer to thirty other documents in annexes or references. Most of us can't even agree on the name of a part let alone what constitutes it as a part - there's plenty of room for legal debate for them right there  Nothing is ever black and white is a legal context....just shades of gray everywhere............. that require lots of greening to justify another white collar workers existence..... Could be worse - we could have all state's doing their own stupid interpretations like before :zlove:
Actually, for lights in general, you want ADR13 https://www.comlaw.gov.au/Details/F2009C00579 ADR6 covers the approval process. ADR13 covers all sorts of exterior lighting, including those "illegal" high-K bulbs, etc. Indicators are covered too, they have to be amber ... not white or blue. Clause 6.5 tells all ... even if you fall asleep reading it. Now if only I hadn't modded my Zed by taking out the fogs, and replacing them with driving lights that also turn on with the dipped beams ......
