I'm dissapointed at the remarks made by HPI (long)

I think that we should ignore this magazine.
    Boycott HPI, I say.

What's this about 14 year olds, this goes to show the brain capacity of this Martin guy to come up with such statements - seriously, give me a break.

To me it appears that this guy dislikes the Z (has the blinkers on) and enjoys publicising it, perhaps its as an attention seeking thing to keep the Silvia & Skyline fan club on his side and justify their existence. Hey, keeps him employed...

HPI/Martin fails to see that so many members on this discussion forum surely cannot be wrong when we say we love our Zs.

Funny the 928 come up in a post. I happened to look up the specs on these only a few days ago out of personal interest and looked at a discussion forum they too have their problems. Now do I spread the news and say 928s are crap?

Dam, I should have bought a Silvia or a Skyline so It can end up in the tip in a few years time as a yesteryear piece of crap, hey as long as HPI/Martin & Silvia/Skyline mob are happy.

Nissan have created history with the Z as a sportscar. Anything else they have made is the underdog, whitegoods on wheels. Its because of this very reason I own a 300ZX.
(Its a worldwide recognised highly acclaimed true designed sportscar)Try saying Silvia or Skyline to someone in Europe, see their reaction.

Sorry to rave on - unjust bad publicity certainly gets the blood boiling.

the general feelings of most, if not all, zed owners IMHO.

In this society we enjoy freedom of choice, if HPI/Martin Donnon don't recognize that fact, then they, not us, are out of step. I can't help but wonder just what parameters this clod applies to his judging of automobiles. (Number of "wheelies" you can chuck at the local drive-in, I'm guessing. Fully sick Myte:p ):zlove::zlove::zlove:

    Disagree ..>>

with some of the comments here. It has been clearly established over a long period of time that Donnon/HPI are hopelessly biased against Zeds.

Although there is a case for refuting some of his statements which are factually incorrect, why stoop to his level and give credibility to some of the crap he trots out ?.

Most of us are passionate about our Zeds, but getting defensive and claiming general supremacy over other imports dosen't achieve much.

    wonder what changed

His mind, in the early days when HPI first came out there were plenty of good write ups about Zeds in the magazine, i've still got them and they still make good reading.
I like many have stopped buying the mag because of the biased view now presented, shame i like all the imports,
Zeds, Skylines,180sx,Silvias, Soarers, Mazdas, etc, their all good in their own way.

Fast & Furious came out and all the ricey boys wanted Skylines. Grey import

started to come in more so he started pandering to the ricey crowd. More rice more magazines sold.

Martin doesn't seem to speak for the majority

I do agree that the thoughts and opinions of HPI are extremely bias and unfounded, it is however heartening that I have not seen any of their influence reflected in the real world.
Nearly everyone I talk to loves the Zed or at least respects it the 300ZXtt.
People stare as I drive down the road, countless people have complimented me on the Zed in the car park or on the street some with jaws wide open and a slight hint of drool. I have had girls wave at me, girls chat me up at servo's or car parks because of the Zed. A number of friends have told me I am not allowed to sell it or that I should give it to them, constantly asking for rides.

One recent event really stood out for me. I was attending a party with some friends and I was to give some very attractive young ladies a ride home.
Knowing this was a possibility I drove my V6 Telstar TX5 (Which is quiet a nice, stylish and re-find car - was the same price and option level as the Ford Fairlane of the same year - nothing like the previous Telstar's). We were about to go when one of the girls said "you should have bought the Zed". I replied that if I had then her friend would have had to have ridden in the boot, not a particularly dignified way to travel. Her friend simply looked at me and said enthusiastically "yeah I would do that". It struck me at that moment that the appeal of the Zed was so great that someone would rather ride in its boot than in the comfortable back seat of a still stylish car.

Given the immense positive feedback I have been given and the innumerable compliments I have received from guys and gals I find it hard to accept the opinions of an obviously bitter and bias individual.

There is one thing I know for sure.
Buy a skyline and all the guys look and say "cool car".
Buy a 300ZX and all the girls look and say "cool car".
I don't know about Martin but I know who's attention I prefer, maybe there is a hint in that hmmmmm

I have mixed feelings about this

As some have replied to this thread and have become overly protective about their zed's, I can see why Martin has written about our fourm in his mag.

To others is does seem like we are a big bunch of "boyz with our toyz". Sometimes we do act like 14yr olds, all protective and unrational.

From a non forum member such as my friends, they can see that on our forum, we have nothing but praise for our cars and just bad curses for all other imports.

Now Martin is getting his way as instinctivly most of you are paying out other imports now and how you get more chicks or others want to buy your car trying to justify your car is better.

To me, everyone that drives a car and is enthusiactic about their car and love it is great. I have friends that own Commondores and suzuki swifts and they are all top blokes. Most of these mates get bagged out coz, A; there are a bogan driver or B; they drive a 1.3L gti are try hards with cars that dont go anywhere. Now thats not true. Its just discrimination. A car is great in its own right.

Take a skyline, it was designed as a Race car(rb26dett), a grand tourer (rb25det), and a even a 4 door family car (4 door rb25det). Even rb25de. Now the skyline was a great success as it was made on a versitle platform. alot of parts were interchangable. I think the skyline is a great car from personal expericence. So some of you who think skyline drives are inferior to zed drivers, does that mean i was once inferior to you?

    WE should love our zeds:zlove:

but think your zed is the end all of all imports. Lets be in the import scene with everyone else and who cares about what 1 individual has to say.;)
There is always going to be people like that in this world.

    Regards
    Michael

It is hard to not sound over protective when presenting the 300ZX

I actually thought the responses were really quite reserved and well put. There has been little name calling or posturing, no really bagging of other imports with most of the criticism being directed towards Martin Donnon himself. Most posts are just the expression of disappointment with the unfair treatment given to 300ZX's by HPI

You also seem to come to the conclusion that a lot of us dislike or even hate other cars esp. imports. Yes it is true that I defend the reputation of the Zed when I think it is being unfairly criticised but that does not mean I am blind to other cars.

In fact I have recently been looking at getting an R32 GTR as a daily driver. I already drive a V6 Ford Telstar TX5 which I think is great, it has a beautiful revy engine that makes a great sound and gives a good performance. (Incidentally when buying the TX5 the Suzuki swift was one of the cars I was contemplating)

For me a car has to be fun to drive, I even really enjoyed driving a Toyota starlet that I had as a loan car, it revved away and really gave some fun, all in all a great experience.

My brother drives a WRX and that thing is awesome to drive, and always leaves me with a smile on my face when I drive it.

But at the end of the day I do love the Zed, why you ask?
    Because
    a) I get stares and compliments constantly
    b) It is so much fun to drive
    c) It blows away just about everything else that tries to drag me
    d) It makes you feel great when you are sitting behind the wheel cruising

    I love the Zed because

I just love the feel of driving my zed, because during those moments behind the wheel on a sweeping road the world feels ... "just right".

I just love the way she looked and felt when I first sat in one at the 1990 (or 91) Sydney car show. Though I didn't like the rims (fixed), I didn't like the steering wheel (fixed Momo), I was not too fused with the seats (fixed Recaros), the front bar was boring (fixed 2000spec), and the weaved cloth interior (well fixed that too).

As for sex-appeal, well it would take a very expensive 15 year old car to turn heads like my zed does (whether that be 16 to 60 year olds).

As for bagging other imports ... well
    Mazda RX7-series 8 ... yes please.
Toyota Supra ... vielside rear wing, bomex front please.

Honda NSX ... now that is SeX appeal.

HPI can write whatever they like because at the end of the day their magazine is only good for wiping my ... as well, that is another story.

As I an avid fan of Jerry Springer, I would say GO TO OPRAH

We shouldn't get worked up over what some wanker says about the Zeds. They are simply the best looking value sports car on the road.

Yes the other cars are great too, just look at that guy from SSS last Sunday, that is a really wicked car, but it doesn't look as cool as a ZED.

  15. lame ass guys

well first lets pick on lame ass girls, these are the type of girls, who only like to see a guy, based on the kind of car they drive, dont really care so much about who the guy is as a person, just so long as they bring "the zed"

i have a few friends like this myself, so i know what im talking about

i think im a fairly attractive female, and personally would drive in a beat up ute if i liked the guy

so, guys, stop trying to pick up lame ass girls like this, coz they are only using you

and, grow up, have fun with your toys and stop being so lame, then you will get genuine people driving in your car with u

Help ppl? I was sorta under the

impression that the stuff that this article bags about the zed were actually good points about the car. I thought the cornering even on a stocky car was better than on a R33 gtst? i also thought that the significant power advantage was . . . significant? And its unfair to trial an auto against a manual.
Skylines are cool, no doubt - but, every second joe wants one.

The day my gf saw a zed up close, she became a convert (ex-skyline/holden chic) - such is the power of the zed and i cant wait to get mine :D. Tell me, should i get a skyline? maybe a GTR instead? bah!

Btw, Risky, saw ur car in the carpark man. Looks farkin awesome. The wheels completely change the appearance of the car :D

parker Been around for a bit

    so true

High performance skylines have not a good thing to say about the Zeds, we just won't buy thier crap anymore. Well me anyways. I would like to own up to buying one of thier DVD's, which I might add must have been created by a 14 year old. It sucks no matter what car you like or how you try to take it in. Anyway my point is this in HPI DVD 8 they are building a 34 up and they do a huge amount of work to the engine and still only get 297rwkw. Now I know that isn't a small figure but some of the guys on this forum smash that and it didn't take as many mods. So I don't know where HPI get the idea that Zeds suck! My 2 cents. ;)
