    Hey guys,
Being able to help just about anyone on their problems on the ford site(when i owned a v8 falcon) I feel pretty useless coming on here after buying a z which i know seldom about.
Anyhoo,us auto trans z guys have a "power" and a "hold" switch on our trannys.
With the v8 for we had a "power" which held the gears for longer and was a great asset.
Can someone explain to me the aspects and advantages of the hold and power switches for the z?
I;m assuming (never a good thing) thatthe power is the same as the hold in the ford...but then what is the hold btton?
thanx again guys and i hope to do so much research into thiese cars maybe soon ILL be able to help someone out!

    Hold button

If you have the 'hold' button on, it will stop the car from engaging a higher gear at higher speeds. Go on the highway - have the hold button on and get up to, say 90/100 (around speed limit) and then release the 'hold' button - you'll feel it shift into a higher gear (4th or 5th, whatever yours goes up to). Basically your 'cruise' gear.

This is common for all autos. :)

PS. Don't be afraid to ask these questions - you're probably helping several other people too!

the power button will play the same consept as your other car had....as for the hold button i love this button, it holds the gear your in and doesnt let it change....very good for twisty's and at times you dont want it to change a gear especially on hard corners....usually when you take a corner obviously it will change gears and this usually makes the tyres loose tration, but having the hold button on doesnt let it change....so stop, press the hold button and itll stay in 2nd...if you give it to her itll jump up into 3rd sometimes but generally stay within 2-3rd....real usefull button

Think I had them mixed up

Take off 'power' button, holds gears less/allows access to top gear (highway driving).
'Hold' button, holds current gear. Sorry, haven't driven a manual since my mum's old Mitsubishi Magna (think Sideshow Bob reaction - "Ewwwhhhhhh...") and only had the one button, which was essentially the 'power' button.

And yes - welcome to the forum! :zlove:

You'll find this is a very common question

I can't answer your question as I have an aus-spec auto and these don't have the power switch to which you refer. But you'll find the answer to just about every question - including this one - by using the search function (try "auto", "power" and "hold" as your search keys).

From the rec.humor newsgroup in 1991

Aah the good old days when I was at uni. The internet was text based, email took longer to get to than snail mail, and instead of bittorrent we had ftp & telnet, instead of MSN we had the unix 'talk' command. You could fit all your portable files on 1 or 2 5.25" floppy disks, Windows fitted onto 5mb of hard drive space, and a 386DX/25 with 20 Meg hard drive cost me $2500.

If I hadn't spent so much time trawling the net for this kind of crap it probably wouldn't have taken me 10 years to complete a degree. Jedi didn't study that long and got a masters! *shrug*

power button basically changes the shift points in the auto controller (makes the engine rev higher before changing gears).. hold button keeps you in the gear you are currently in and doesnt change gear

get a manual and you can change gear when you want to.. i dont have either of these buttons, i have a stick and a clutch.. and mrs pacman was hot
