hey all, just a general question is there anyway to convered the OBD1 port on a 300zx to a OBD2 is it just the socket and the pin layout that is different or is it the actual coding of the ECU..

    Cheers

    General question - why?

The OBDII ECU's are 16bit where'as the OBDI ecu's are 8bit. OBDI's are easier to modify, ie chip, etc than the OBDII's, and the OBDI ecu does it's job quite well.

The OBDII's also have a fair bit more emission's control boozwaggle to them as well. O3 sensors are different, and from memory there might be another few sensors that are different as well...plus it's a different plug on the end of the loom.

OBDII's arn't as mod friendly either.

Just stick with the good ol OBDI

    thanks for the info.....

i just was woundering because Apexi has that cool plug and play product that plugs straight into a OBD2 port and moniters ECU and sensor output ie: rpm, temp, injector duty cycle, etc..

    well now i know hehe

    thanks again.:)

This will display those sensor values, is OBDI-compliant and allows you to view and clear error codes. Not only that, but it'll be a bit cheaper than the Apexi device and it's Australian made! It also includes a serial cable for interfacing your laptop/PDA with your car.

It's a little bit ugly if you're into bling and if you're a brand-name kinda guy then you'll probably be happier with the Apexi thingo. But I think this is probably the best value data display you can get for the Z32.
