I called Pakenham tail shafts and the bloke mentioned I could get the non-serviceable universals replaced by a retired guy he knew of.

I called the guy (Keith) and he knew a lot about his work and 300zx's. He used to own a tail shaft business in Ferntree Gully years ago, now he is retired and works from his daughters shed in Narre Warren North. He imports the universals from America and always has some in stock. Apparently they are made in America specifically for 300zx's.

The only thing I had to do was to take the tail shaft to him. (At this point I would like to say thanks to Enuffz for lending me his ramps).

He put the new universals in, inspected and repacked the CV joint with grease and took the shaft to Spicers, who apparently are the only ones who have a balancing machine to handle the diameter of a 300zx CV joint.

All this cost me $335.50. Great price seen I was looking at a one piece for $500.00. I also wanted to keep the 2 piece.

I also replaced the diff oil as I had access to the filler and drain hole which I have never been able to see before.

Boy does it run smooooth now.

Here are his details for those interesred.

    Very interesting Gerhard.....>>

Like you I want to stay with the two piece, so I hope this guy is still around when my shaft needs doing.

    I was waiting for that......>>

I knew when I wrote it that it was only a matter of time till it was picked up. I was going to edit it but thought what the hell, the forum could do with some simple humour after some of the discussions (crap) I've read recently.
