Hey all, i was poking around the boot today and found this behind the center panel (the garnish where the reverse lights are and the 300zx logo), its wired into the rear lights harness, it seems to be a inverter of the sort its putting out around 100v AC what is it??

That will be for an illuminated centre panel

most likely the EL strip in the panel, or the inverter is not working, assuming it is wired correctly.

looks like a bracket that would of held an el panel to light up the 300zx logo, lol im gregs echo again

is there a way to test it,

the inverter is putting out 100vAC my understanding of inverters is that, that is the correct voltage, is there a way to check the EL panel in the garnish.. (is this stock or has someone put it in?)

I have the exacty same thing on mine

The 300zx logo illuminates green. It worked when I first got my car about 3 yrs ago, then about 1 year ago, it stopped working. I think the inverter might be faulty on mine, when I turn the lights on, you can hear it buzzing.

yeah fmont i have the same thing mine gives off

a little BUZZING when the lights are on?? does anyone know what the output voltage of the inverter is supposed to be, also how can you test the el panel itself

When mine died I pulled it all apart and found the el strip had been burnt through at the contacts in it, and the buzzing was actually the inverter creating an arc through the strip. I also found I could get the strip to work again by moving the contacts to an unburnt part on the strip, but Ive had no luck finding some conductive glue to relocate the contacts with. I'll probably just buy a new strip when I can be bothered pulling it all apart again.
