Just for you Con I removed my fuel tank and fuel pump to have a look

(only kidding I had it out to dump the old fuel in it).

Mine has the check valve in it between the pump and where it exits out the top the fuel pump assembly. You should be able to suck on the hose coming out of it but shouldn't be able to blow into it.

    What about if......

you remove that valve? That's what happened when it was all together, but when I test the valve on its own, it allows flow freely in both directions.

I'll remove the valve tonight >>

the parts manual is a bit confusing in this area as it looks like the 2+2 doesn't have a check valve and the 2 seater only got it from 9/91 onwards. My 2+2 has the check valve so maybe I have a new pump in mine.

yep mine looks the same. Have you tried to blow and suck into

the check valve with it upside down relative to how it would sit in the fuel tank. It might be a check valve to stop fuel coming out if the car rolls onto its roof. I'll check it out further tonight for your.
