Today on the way home I heard this loud whoosh like on of my fmic pipes popped off. Then after that I pulled over to check if it was, but i found no pipes were off. So i popped the bonnet and the sound was like there was no exhaust manifold connected to my car. (Pretty loud like a tractor) I hear the sound coming from the left side. I am wondering if anyone knows what the hell that could be? Cause I drove the car home with the problem so its not the engine?::(

could be exhaust manifold gasket let go, also could be a boost leak, some of those leaks can be hard to find.

you could "blow your car up" to find a boost leak, a matter of removing the pod filter and inserting a black baz special blower up adaptor, to an air compressor, and listening for leaks.

Was boost still on full? Maybe one of the wastegates jammed open? Though tractor sound, sounds like exhaust related to me...

    Yeah i think it's

definately exhaust related. And no the car was cold, (bout 30 seconds driving). Someone I know said it could be the egr? I'm not sure bout that tho.

    Okay I just calmed down

and switched her on and had another listen. The sound is definately coming from where the egr is located. Can anyone think of why there is such a loud noise? And also if the egr is farked can i still drive the car safely to the mechanic to get it rectified?

    Thanks peoples:)

Maybe time to remove the EGR with a JWT EGR Removal kit.

With all the crap in the Z32 engine bay you'd be hard pressed to find a licence authority that even cares if it's there or not.

    Yeah definately

Iv'e got a set of black baz's fully sick egr blanking plates so il just get a bolt from somewhere and get rid of the bastard once and for all.

Mine did the same thing about 12 months ago. Just suddenly started to sound like a tractor. Took it to UAS and they found that only 1 nut was holding one of the downpipes onto the L/H turbo, the others had vibrated loose with 16 years of use. JP said it was quite common for Zeds to do that. They just replaced the nuts and tightened it up and it was fine, the gasket had not blown out and sealed well.

Yeah JT is on the right track - its probably a just an exhaust gasket leak - could be manifold, turbo flange or dump pipes gaskets.

    Exhaust bolt!

    Howdy mate,
use bthe bolt that comes out of the exhaust. Just cut it off the pipe, take it to an exhaust shop and get them to fill the middle of it with weld, then just wack it back in,

    Very likely!

Mine does this all the time, and have had Caz's do it before to. Sounds like crap and not a good feeling,
